Second Chef
Competitive Pay

You’re a capable, experienced chef with a City & Guilds 705 qualification (or the equivalent). You’re a caring person who knows the vital role mealtimes play in the lives of frail, older people. Ideally, you’ve already got some experience catering for older people in a care home or similar setting. You’re well-organised and a good team player. You’re happy working closely with colleagues to make sure individual dietary needs are met. You want to be a valued member of a friendly, close-knit team – keen to progress in your career as a chef and do your bit to improve the nutrition of older people.

Your role
Reporting to the Head Chef, you’ll be responsible for preparing appetising meals for our care home residents. So you’ll need to be hard-working and reliable. It’s also crucial that you understand the challenges of catering for older, vulnerable people – some of whom may have poor appetites. You’ll work closely with your care team colleagues to address individual needs. We’ll also expect you to support and inspire your assistants in the kitchen, help your Head Chef with menu planning and maintain excellent food hygiene standards. This is a demanding role for a chef. But you’ll have lots of support and quality training to make a success of it.

As a Chef at Care UK, you can look forward to:

  • Competitive pay – we pay more than the average
  • Flexible hours, including a choice of day, night or weekend shifts
  • 25 days’ annual leave
  • Bank holiday enhancements
  • Fast-track career options, e.g. to Head Chef
  • Quality training to develop your skills
  • Stakeholder pension
  • Childcare vouchers
  • Free chef’s uniform
  • Thousands of online and in-store discounts

About Care UK
We run over 120 homes and day clubs across the UK. We provide residential, nursing, dementia and end-of-life care for older people. As one of the UK’s leading care home providers, our goal is to help every employee fulfil his or her potential – with first-class training and support.

Where you'll work
Skylark House care home in Littlehaven, north of Horsham, will open in late 2016.  The 80-bed home has been designed over three floors which are split into suites, each with their own dining room, quiet sitting areas and comfortable lounges. The ground floor will be a hub of activity with a hair and beauty salon, where residents can get pampered and a café overlooking the landscaped gardens. There will even be an in-house cinema and spacious balcony on the second floor. The team will have the skills and experience to deliver the very best in nursing, dementia, residential and short-term respite care.
