About the DB2 Database Systems Programmer (MainFrame, SQL) role: Mainframe DB2 systems programming support, physical or logical, as required. REQUIRED SKILLS of the DB2 Database Systems Programmer (MainFrame, SQL): • Bachelor's degree required and/or equivalent work experience. • 6-10 years of professional experience with DB2 in either physical or logical database administration and systems programming support • Knowledge of CA and IBM tools for DB2 is a plus. • For physical DBAs, extensive experience with the following: • Knowledge in best practices of software management, maintenance and documentation • Configuration and management of DB2 in a parallel sysplex environment • Development of innovative strategies, process and best practices in software management • Establishment of policies and procedures pertaining to database management, DR, security, maintenance and utilization. • Review of new versions of DB2 in regard to functionality, ability to advise clients on how they will benefit from the new functionality. • Evaluation of change requests and determination of impact to assigned clients • Supervision and development of opportunities for associates • Support of DB2 security requests • Review of DB2 security looking for potential risks • Reorganization of application data • Consultation with vendors on problems and questions • Space calculations for new objects and environments • Review and tuning of internal DB2 buffer pools and SQL code • Disaster recovery of application objects • Troubleshooting and solving production database issues • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and effectively to support requests from multiple clients • After hours on-call support For logical DBAs, extensive experience with the following: • Administration and support of databases in mainframe DB2 • Support of multiple DB2 subsystems simultaneously • Support of customer and internal requests for building all types of DB2 objects • Analyzing new versions of DB2 for functionality that can improve customer systems • Refresh of test data for whole environments • Support of DB2 security requests; review of DB2 security looking for potential risks • Reorganization of application data • Consultation with vendors on problems and questions • Space calculations for new objects and environments • Review and tuning of internal DB2 buffer pools and SQL code • Disaster recovery of application objects • Troubleshooting and solving production database issues • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and effectively to support requests from multiple clients • Establishment of policies and procedures pertaining to database management, DR, security, maintenance and utilization. • After hours on-call support Main Responsibilities of the DB2 Database Systems Programmer (MainFrame, SQL): • Physical and/or Logical DBA support: • Perform mainframe database software upgrades coupled with administration and tuning to support customer DB2 environments. • Database creation, development, administration and tuning to support customers' development, test and production databases. • Work with vendor personnel to achieve timely solutions to database problems. • Day-to-day database maintenance, including crating backups, performing restores, monitoring file extent growth, scheduling reorganizations, creating and maintaining DR procedures; overall support of customer needs and requests. • Database optimization, including general reporting and analysis of the efficiency of the database configuration along with periodic review of database performance. • Development, support, and/or customization of new services and support efforts. • Systems programming knowledge of multiple DBMS types is a bonus. • Participation in on-call responsibilities. • Establish and maintain documentation for client runbooks, systems processes and standards specific to Wipro DCS DB2 support.
