Physiotherapist

Salary- £29,000. 35 hours per week.

Reports To: Team Manager

Operationally Managed by Director of Quality, Compliance and Service Improvement

Dimension of Role

    • To provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment for people we support with complex disabilities and offer support advice to families and staff.
    • Provide specialist physiotherapy input into multi-disciplinary team meetings.
    • To supervise, support and guide Physiotherapy Support Workers
    • Work closely with community services providing specialist physiotherapy support.

Principle Responsibilities

Clinical

  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of the practitioner's professional activities.
  • To undertake physiotherapy assessment and treatment as an autonomous practitioner based on clinical evidence.
  • To evaluate and reassess individualised physiotherapy management including postural management and / or treatment plans, using clinical reasoning skills and utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options in order to formulate an individual programme of care.
  • To be able to assess people we support for appropriate seating, lying, standing and walking equipment and recommend purchase if necessary.
  • To be able to diagnose problems with seating, orthotics and equipment use and resolve by adjustment or referral to appropriate agencies.
  • To offer advice on and / or recommend any other equipment to enable service users to gain or maintain functional independence.
  • To be able to determine splint and orthotics use and where appropriate manufacture the splint.
  • To participate in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency clinics within the Therapy Suite.
  • To be responsible for the safety of physiotherapy equipment used by others.
  • To comply with Sussex Health Care policies and procedures.

Communication

  • To communicate complex and sensitive information in an understandable form to carers and other staff.
  • To motivate others and to gain co-operation for treatment.
  • To maintain an accurate and evaluative record keeping system and supervise the records of physiotherapists and assistants within the Therapy Centre.
  • To ensure that reports and discharge summaries are completed and arrange for them to be sent to the relevant registered managers.
  • To be able to discuss physiotherapeutic input to family members in an appropriate manner.
  • To initiate and maintain contact with local and national interest groups appropriate to the clinical field.

Management

  • To achieve the effective daily management of a caseload of persons with complex disabilities within the Therapy Centre including responding to urgent referrals and prioritising clinical work.
  • To contribute to the managerial matters of the department including the development and implementation of the Therapy Suite.
  • To ensure that the agreed quality standards of service, based on professional guidelines and standards from 'Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Clinical Practice' and national guidelines such as 'National Care Standards' are maintained.

Education

  • To participate in shared learning opportunities for both physiotherapists and physiotherapy support workers within the Therapy Centre .
  • In collaboration with the Team Manager be responsible for and actively recording your own personal professional development.
  • To keep abreast in understanding and knowledge of all new developments which are applicable to specific physiotherapy treatments.

Health & Safety

  • The post holder must comply with the requirements of Health & Safety at Work.
  • The post holder must follow manual handling regulations at all times.

General

  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by your Team Manager.
