Working within a successful machinery design, manufacturing, and sales business, the position of Apprentice Electrical Fitter is available for a self-motivated individual that is able to work independently but within a team environment. The overall role responsibilities include the electrical fitting and testing of our range of filling and capping machines, as well as some basic mechanical machine assembly.

Responsibilities will include assistance with -

· Building of electrical panels.

· Wiring of and powering up of machines.

· PAT testing.

· Measuring up, drilling, tapping and mounting of electrical equipment following an electrical drawing.

· Numbering of components, wiring, crimping of ferrules.

· Testing voltages, checking safety circuits, checking overall circuitry and earthing.

· Testing of finished machines.

· Assembly and piping.

Training to be Provided:

The programme requires candidates to work towards a framework of qualifications, as follows:

 

• Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations

• Level 2 City and Guilds Diploma in Engineering

• Level 1 Functional Skills in Math

• Level 1 Functional Skills in English

• Level 2 Functional Skills in Math

• Level 2 Functional Skills in English

• Level 2 Award in Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

• Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

The City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma and Functional Skills qualifications will be delivered via weekly classes at college, normally starting in September.

 

The NVQ Diploma, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) and Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) will be delivered in company by one of our experienced Assessors.

 

The ERR workbook is intended to enable apprentices to know, understand and record the principles associated with the nine national outcomes such as the world of work and how they are constrained by various legal and organisational procedures for their own well-being. All apprentices must also receive a company induction programme.

 

PLTS comprise of 6 skill areas - Creative thinking, Independent enquiry, Reflective Learning, Team working, Self Management and Effective Participation. The PLTS areas are interconnected so it is likely that apprentices will encounter skills from several areas in any one learning experience. For example, when an apprentice works to improve their own and team practice in the workplace they will have demonstrated team working (collaborate with others to work towards common goals), effective participator (identify improvements that would benefit others as well as themselves) and self manager skills (work towards goals, showing initiative, commitment and perseverance).

• Able to follow set procedures with great attention to detail.

• Comfortable applying their own initiative when required.

• Able to demonstrate a passion for ‘practical’ engineering through hobbies or qualifications.

• Enthusiastic, forward thinking, able to work under own initiative, ability to learn new tasks.

• Flexible team player.

 

You will be required to study towards achieving a Performing Engineering Operations Level 2 Apprenticeship.

Flexible, reliable, punctual.

An interest in practical skills and engineering through hobbies/out of work activities.

Future Prospects:

Based on performance, offer of a full time position following completion of apprenticeship.

The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour effective from 1st April 2018. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

Reality Check:

Possibility of need to be flexible with working hours on odd occasions if ever overtime/weekend work was required.
