Grade - NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Consultant Community Child Health/Neurodisability Paediatrician, Nightingale Child Development Centre, Haywards Heath - 10 PAs (less than full time applicants will also be considered. Post also open to trainees who will be within 6 months of CCT when starting in post).

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Community Paediatric team based at Nightingale Child Development Centre, Haywards Heath, West Sussex.

The successful applicant will join a Community Paediatric team of 2.8 WTE consultants plus a Specialist Registrar). This team is also part of Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust's wider Child Development Service, consisting of 3 other CDCs. There are opportunities for joint working and professional development and networking with over 15 consultant colleagues across the Trust. 

The Centre provides an excellent and friendly environment for multidisciplinary assessment and is the main base for the Child Development and Disability Service, including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, a Clinical Psychologist, a Specialist Health Visitor, and a Specialist Nursery Nurse. We are at an exciting time in service development with the likelihood of significant investment from commissioners as part of the Transforming Care Program to facilitate a move to an integrated CAMHS/CDC pathway for children with possible ASD and/or ADHD. 

Members of the team are actively involved in research in neurodisability, leading 4 studies with national funding, focusing on the use of digital technologies in treatment and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders, and on improving ASD diagnostic services.  The postholder will be encouraged to participate in this research and develop their own research interests. 

The department is committed to teaching and provides clinical and research placements for students from Brighton and Sussex Medical School. 

The post-holder will deliver child development and neurodisability clinics as part of the multidisciplinary team, and will be encouraged to develop an area of special interest, e.g. complex neurodisability, social communication disorders, or looked-after children, and take on wider roles e.g. in BACCH or BACD. 

There will also be an opportunity for the successful applicant to join the daytime and weekend rota for the Sussex Wide Children's SARC. 

The post is based close to the beautiful South Downs, Ashdown Forest and Brighton, with good train access to London and Gatwick Airport.  There are a number of good schools locally.
