Transport Manager

Eezehaul Logistics are a growing FORS Silver accredited Logistics Company based in Crawley, West Sussex, specialising in palletised freight movements.  Leading members of The Pallet Network, we operate a growing prestigious fleet of 41 vehicles ranging from 3.5t to 44t plus 23 trailers.  We are looking for a TM who can play a part in the continuous growth strategy and improvement in all processes and procedures whilst maintaining a safe fleet within stretching utilisation targets in the 24/5 operation.  All vehicles are repaired and maintained by 3rd party contractors or vehicle providers. 

Job Description

This role will see the successful candidate take responsibility for a varied Fleet Management role spanning 23 trailers, 41 vehicles and 45 drivers and will perform the duties as the designated Transport Manager on the Company's Goods Vehicle Operator's Licence. The job holder will ensure that the Company is fully compliant with its legal responsibilities, controlling/checking costs, vehicle contracts, mileage, renewals and R&M/MOT programme and reporting on transport performance.

The key responsibilities and challenges of the role include:

  • Driver compliance and accident monitoring/investigation/reduction
  • Managing the vehicle R&M & MOT programme
  • Managing the operational and commercial relationship with vehicle suppliers including maintenance and repair
  • Ensure compliance of the Goods Vehicle Operator's licence held by the Company, in line with current legislation.
  • Manage drivers' hours and infringements for permanent and agency drivers in line with working --time and drivers' hours and tachograph rules in the UK and Europe
  • Ensure all drivers maintain company and legal standards. Control fleet costs including fuel efficiency and usage
  • Ensure maximum fleet availability for operational planning
  • Recruitment, induction, training and performance management of drivers
  • Deal with transport and operational/technical issues including breakdowns, incident management and minor repairs/maintenance to ensure minimal down time
  • Work with all staff to enhance their health and safety knowledge and develop their ability to ensure standards are being achieved when out on customer sites

The Successful Applicant

The ideal candidate will be a Transport Manager with experience in the management of a sizeable fleet, (preferably FORS Silver) and in a fast moving environment with previous budget and cost control and the ability to work to tight deadlines and KPIs. Good people management skills and the ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and colleagues are essential for this role. Strong vehicle technical skills, IT skills and a CPC qualification will also be an essential feature of the successful candidate.

What's on Offer?

£35,000 - £40,000p/a + auto-enrolment Pension.  An informal bonus scheme may feature following a 6 month probation period.
