Kings School students to tackle Snowdon as part of The LoveLocalJobs Foundation programme; Take the Leap.
Employees from Paxton Access Ltd. and Shoreham Port interviewed 20 Year 8 students who had applied and managed to narrow it down to 14 students, who will be going on a once in a lifetime outdoor pursuits adventure to Snowdonia. The trip, taking place in September, will allow students to develop employability skills whilst taking part in outdoor adventure activities, such as gorge walking, hiking and mountaineering.
Volunteers from Paxton Access Ltd. and Shoreham Port spoke to the students about the skills that they will get from the trip, fears that they may have and what they feel they will gain from the experience. The interviews provided an opportunity for the students to identify key opportunities and learnings that they will take away from the experience, whilst also allowing them to put it into real life context face to face with employers.
Nicola ODonnell, Human Resources Director at Paxton Access said “It was great to be involved in the Take the Leap interviews to see how the programme could positively impact the students and help them build confidence and address their fears in a proactive way. The interviewees were all thoroughly prepared and did really well during the interview!”
Sarah Price, Headteacher at Kings School said “We are delighted to be working with the Love Local Jobs Foundation to send 14 of our Year 8 students to Snowdonia in September. This trip will provide them with experiences that simply can’t be offered in school. They will come away from their week in Wales with greater resilience, enhanced self-esteem, stronger bonds with their peers, and lifelong memories.”

Students from Longhill High School are also benefiting from the programme, with a trip also taking place in September. As the trip is fully funded through the Love Local Jobs Foundation and generosity of local employers, students have been chosen who would not normally be able to access this opportunity, and once there, will help them fulfil their potential and gain invaluable skills.
