About Apprenticeships
An Apprenticeship is a way for young people and adult learners to earn while they learn in a real job, gaining a real qualification and a real future. Hiring apprentices helps businesses to grow their own talent by developing a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce.

There are three types of Apprenticeships depending on current skills and qualifications:

  • Intermediate Level Apprenticeships
  • Advanced Level Apprenticeships
  • Higher Apprenticeships
Higher Apprenticeships are designed by employers and professional bodies to help develop higher skill levels, and include qualifications at a level equivalent to the first stages of Higher Education.

All Apprenticeship levels can be taken by school and college leavers or internal existing staff members. Funding is available for staff between 16-24 years of age.

How does this benefit an employer?

  • Apprenticeships help businesses grow their own talent - 96% of employers report benefits to their business when taking on an Apprentice. With over 440,000 Apprenticeship starts across 2014/2015, 82% of businesses report improved productivity and employee satisfaction as a result of employing an Apprentice and offering further qualifications to their workforce.
  • Apprenticeships are a proven way to motivate, upskill and better qualify the workforce - Businesses that take on Apprentices view them as a more long-term development opportunity. According to the British Chambers of Commerce, most employ an Apprentice to improve the skills base within their business. Apprentices are supported by quality training from local training organisations.
  • Apprenticeships improve productivity while reducing costs - The average Apprenticeship increases business productivity by £214 per week, with these gains including increased profits, lower prices and better products.

Further benefits of employing an Apprentice

  • They are a cost effective way to fill skill gaps or refresh employer needs and resource shortages (Apprenticeship wage £3.30 per hour).
  • 100% free training resulting in accelerated employee development whether new or existing staff.
  • £1500 employer grant available when taking on a new Apprentice.
  • Increased employee satisfaction, loyalty and motivation.
