LoveLocalJobs.com are happy to share the latest news from our Founding Partner IT First.

Rhys shares with us his experience as working as an apprentice for IT First and why he would recommend being an apprentice to others.

How did you get into doing an apprenticeship?

My dad was helping me out by sending my CV to various companies in an attempt to get into a Job but I was generally unsuccessful (usually not getting past the interview stage) however IT First came back to me and wanted to speak to me about a possible apprenticeship, and I thought that it would be a great way for me to get into a job without experience and actually learn more for the trade that I wanted to work in.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I chose an apprenticeship because it looked like a great way for me to get into the area that I wanted to work in and learn whilst working and It felt like a great opportunity for me to Work and Learn.

How did you choose IT First for your apprenticeship?

IT First initially got in contact with me asking me if I was interested in the possibility of an apprenticeship and I knew that I wanted to work in the area, so I chose IT First as it was a great opportunity with members who have large pools of knowledge and a variety of customers with many different problems ranging from emails not working to a full install of multiple servers for their business.

What’s the best thing about working at IT First?

The people at IT First are very nice and always willing to lend me a hand with anything, they have been teaching me a lot of things for my job and this has been the best part of my apprenticeship.

What skills have you developed during your apprenticeship so far that will help you with your career?

I’ve gained a lot of technical knowledge for Office 365, Active Directory and Exchange, I also have gained more customer services skills when It comes to communicating with them and asking them a lot of questions so that I can get to the root of the problem, this is a great skill for moving forward in the future.

Is there an achievement that you are particularly proud of?

I’ve been given a lot of responsibilities when it comes to the Backup checks which is one of the most important parts of my job as if the record for whether the Backup has failed or not is extremely important because if the record is wrong and a backup has been failing yet we are saying they are succeeding we can be at fault and taken to court so I am proudest of this as It is a large responsibility within the company.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to other people?

I would highly recommend an apprenticeship to anyone who wants to work and then learn at the same time which can help to then get taken on properly or give training that can help to get another job and set anyone up in a career for the rest of their life.

Do you have any advice for people thinking of starting an apprenticeship?

I think that anyone considering doing an apprenticeship should go for it as most places want experience to even get in the front door through an apprenticeship you not only gain experience but also knowledge that you might not have got through simply doing a course at college or University.
