Yasmin Griffith’s Story – Working at American Express

Here is Yasmin Griffith's Story about joining and working at American Express...

Tell me about your current role at American Express?

I am currently a Business Development Manager. This means I am responsible for finding new business customers while also being an account manager to look after new customers who sign up. Each day is varied, generating new business one day to managing customers the next. We obviously have targets being sales – though the targets are realistic and achievable once you know what you are doing. Particularly if you enjoy the job.

How long have you been with the company?

I have worked for American Express now for three years.

Tell me about your Amex career so far?

Amex is a great place to progress. Amex really likes to look after their employees. If you have aspirations to move into different teams this is really encouraged. Development is great. I joined as the company as a Business Sales Executive in lead generation and then after a year gained promoted into a business development role.

Why did you join American Express?

I joined for the flexibility and progression – The support to develop and work closely with management to reach my career goals.

What did you do before joining American Express?

Before joining American Express I worked as an estate agent. This role allowed me to use my skills in negotiation and customer service. My role at Amex allowed me to grow my skill set. I was asked when I started what I wanted to achieve, and a plan was developed to help me do just that.

How does Amex differ from other companies you have worked for?

Amex is a great environment to work in. American Express put trust in you as an employee once you join the business. A mature working environment. Not a typical call centre environment.

What would you say to candidates considering making an application to American Express?

American Express is a growing company with massive potential. Meeting new people every day! It’s really easy to network, make new contacts and really make a name for yourself.
