Supply Desk is working in partnership with a number of welcoming and inclusive primary schools across Brighton and Hove, who are seeking dedicated and resilient 1:1 Behaviour Mentors to support pupils with behavioural, emotional, and social needs from September 2026. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.

About the Role

As a 1:1 Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with an individual pupil who requires additional behavioural and emotional support to engage positively with school life. You will play a vital role in promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development, both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support to a primary-aged pupil with behavioural or emotional needs
  • Implement behaviour support strategies in line with individual behaviour plans
  • Support emotional regulation, resilience, and positive social interaction
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Encourage engagement with learning and participation in classroom activities
  • Use de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviour positively
  • Monitor and record progress, sharing feedback with relevant staff
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers

Candidate Profile

  • Experience working with children or young people with behavioural needs (primary experience preferred)
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence managing and responding to challenging behaviour
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school and pastoral team
  • A genuine commitment to supporting children s emotional and behavioural development

Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Two relevant professional references
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
