Post Title:  Apprentice Swimming Teacher (full time – 30 Hours per week). 

Organisation:  Brighton Swimming Centre Ltd 

Location:  Brighton Swimming Centre, Eastern Road , Brighton

Reports to:  Manager – Jade Cohen

Date to start:  ASAP

Duration:  12 months (with an option for permanent employment if agreed by both parties) 

Job Purpose:  Our apprenticeship programme provides new staff an opportunity to develop skills across the whole range of activities the centre provides. These include gaining practical experience in: lifeguarding , assisting with swimming lessons , pool water testing , cafe , reception , swim shop , sea swimming provision (pool 2 pier) , open water event support , cleaning , setting up the pool , admin and marketing . Full training will be given and will lead to the possible attainment of the nationally recognised qualification below).

Apprenticeship Training Included within the Role:  You will be given an “Individual Learning Plan” for the following qualifications which you will undertake in and around your working hours:

  • RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
  • ASA UKCC Level 1 Teaching Aquatics
  • ASA UKCC Level 2 Teaching Aquatics
  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 Activity Leadership
  • 1 st 4 Sport Level 2 Employment Awareness
  • Level 1 and 2 Functional Skills (Eng & Maths), if required
  • Various 1 day courses, e.g. water testing, safeguarding, 1st aid etc...

Alongside accredited qualifications you will receive support from the Learning Support Coordinator at Swim UK who will regularly be in touch to ensure you are happy on your training programme.

Desirable Qualities: 

  • Interest and/or background in swimming
  • Highly organised
  • Good time management
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Motivated to learn and achieve new qualifications 

National Minimum Wage:

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £2.73 per hour. From October 1st 2015 it increases to £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum Wage appropriate to their age applies.

The Wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.

Pay:  £150 per week / £7,800 per annum pro rata 

Hours of Work:  You will be required to work 30 hours per week – Days and hours to be agreed. This will include evenings / weekends.

Holiday:  20 days pro rata (16 days in total).
