Snailspace Route Master
Following on from the amazing popularity and success of our Snowdogs by the Sea, this Autumn 50 giant and 50 junior Snail Sculptures will slide onto the streets of Brighton and Hove to create the city's biggest visitor attraction of the year.
Where: Various locations on the streets of Brighton and Hove.
When: 9th September to 4th December, Thursday - Sunday
Our Route Masters will be volunteering in pairs and be required to work 4 hour shifts from 11am until 3pm.
Ideally, you will be able to commit to one or more sessions per week throughout the project. You will also be invited to help at our Snailway events, such as the Snailway launch events on Sunday 9 September and Wednesday 12 September, the Snailway Safari on Friday 19 October and the Farewell event at the end of November.
What you’ll be doing:
Your role will be to help visitors find their way around the route, sign posting them to key destinations on the route map. This may involve helping them download our App, talking about the sculptures, helping with ‘Snailfies’ and probably much more besides! At times you may be asked to collect money for Martlets.
What’s in it for you:
Are you a closet performer? A humble historian or an art addict? Want to meet people, re-discover this vibrant city and help a wonderful cause? This is a fantastic chance to show the world what you’re made of!
Your skills and abilities:
- Can you stay smiling in the variable great British weather?
- Do you love a good walk? (reasonable levels of fitness are required)
- Do you ooze charm and enthusiasm?
- Do you know and love Brighton and Hove?
- Are you ready to #BeMoreSnail?
We will offer training, a snazzy uniform (fleece, hat and badge), tea and coffee and full support in your volunteering role from one of our shop managers. You will have reasonable travel expenses covered (by public transport into and out of the city) and you will be working in pairs with your safety and wellbeing our priority.
In return we expect punctuality, positivity, politeness and passion. Plus, good communication skills and a regular commitment to the role.
We will be asking you to come along to an introductory session from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday 9 August where you can discover more about the role and whether you can become a Snailspace Route Master. If successful, you will then be asked to attend an additional two-hour training event.
