Commis Chef Apprenticeship
As the apprentice commis chef you will work in a small team helping with all aspects of a busy kitchen. Assisting in the preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as function and event catering.
You will learn safe and hygienic working practices and produce food using fresh, local produce.
You will be expected to assist in Kitchen Porter activities.
The experienced and dedicated team will support and mentor you alongside your own designated apprenticeship assessor to help you develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours in all areas of the kitchen. These include:
- Knife skills Fruit and vegetable preparation
- Food preparation using different cooking methods
- Basic butchery
- Basic fish filleting
- Basic pastry work
- Food presentation
- Stock rotation
- Cleaning and clearing down the kitchen
- Food safety and hygiene
- Costing and portion control
- Menu design Wine pairing
- Basic knife skills
- Hard working
- Willing to learn
- Good time keeping
- An interest in hospitality, especially food
Minimum GCSE grade 2+ or equivalent (D grade +)
The opportunity to join the kitchen team on a full time basis.
Things to consider
Because of the location of the role you will require some form of transport. Nearest public transport is Berwick train station just over 1 mile away.
Because the role is shift based and requires potentially early starts or late finishes your own transport would be advantageous.
