Hastings Direct, Technical Claims Team Leader

A fantastic new opportunity within our Complex Claims team for a skilled Technical Claims Team Leader. This role reports into the Personal Injury Claims Manager and would appeal to individuals with a Technical Claims, legal or medical background looking for a new challenge in a fast paced, forward thinking organisation.

The Role

The role is responsible for the management of a team of Negotiators, supporting team members with Complex cases where damages are likely to exceed £25,000, or are outside the jurisdiction of England and Wales. The overall goal is to identify and prevent fraudulent claims, and ensure the best outcome for HISL, utilising skills such as negotiation, tactical awareness, market insight and data insight. Key external stakeholders will include insurers, solicitors, medical experts and rehabilitation providers.

Your remit will include the following;

Ensure that Direct Reports conduct all aspects of claim handling in line with Company Policy & Procedures and also Civil Procedure Rules. Where issues arise, take action to rectify. Where a breach may have significant impact upon the business reporting appropriately. Ensure that Team Members achieve all targets set. Take appropriate action in the event of consistent failure to meet targets either through Training including coaching or by Performance Management. Authorise Cheques up to authority limit. Undertake Audit responsibility for unit/team ensuring that constructive feedback is provided to the case handler. Any training needs identified are provided to the Training Department. Any process issues/changes are referred to the Personal Injury Claims Manager and/or the Head of Complex Claims Responsible for own caseload of personal injury claims, working under own authority in accordance with set referral authority and multi track cases Cases to be managed in line with Department Guidelines and/or as designated by the Personal Injury Claims Manager. Communicating via telephone (incoming and outbound calls) and written correspondence with policyholder, keeping them updated of all material developments, witnesses, Insurers, repairers, solicitors, engineers, third party representatives, medical experts, forensic accountants, rehabilitation providers, case managers, overseas handling agents, investigators, medical agencies, costs draughtsmen, CRU, Counsel, police authorities and third parties in order to bring about resolution of claims. To provide timely notification of reserve movements to Advantage Insurance Company via Large Loss Advices and periodic updates. · To act as a referral point and mentor for Claims Negotiators, providing training where appropriate. · To conduct audits as directed by the Personal Injury Claims Manager and/or Head of Complex Claims and to provide feedback to the Individual and Management as required. Training needs to be identified and communicated to the Training Team. Issues of potential concern to the business to be referred immediately to Personal Injury Claims Manager and/or Head of Claims. Interface with relevant claims units and departments within the company. · Ensure that you (and any direct reports) are meeting customers' fair and reasonable expectations and provide fair outcomes. Question and challenge peers and managers where processes and procedures do not meet these expectations and any activity that does not place customers' interests at the heart of how we do business. Required experience

· Sound knowledge of the CPR, Pre Action Protocols and Litigation procedures · Experience within the insurance industry, ideally in a claims handling role · Experience in handling personal injury claims with knowledge and experience in handling Multi Track claims · Substantial knowledge and experience of settling claims in excess of £25,000. Some experience in dealing with cases exceeding £100k would be beneficial · Knowledge of Non Jurisdiction issues including Scotland, Northern Ireland and Europe would be advantageous · Cert CII Qualified or progress towards would be desirable.
