Job Purpose

The role of Student Services Manager is to support our students and teaching delivery teams in the day to day running of our busy and creative training centre in Brighton, act as organisational Safeguarding Designated Lead Officer and to act as one of the first points of contact for students, staff and visitors to the centre for pastoral, attendance, welfare and safeguarding issues.

This is a varied and rewarding role, including coordinating pastoral services, providing information, advice and guidance in order to support the students in overcoming barriers to learning and successfully completing their programmes with us and also importantly, providing a Safeguarding and Prevent Designated Lead contact.

Working with all teams in both centres, co-manage the Bexhill Student Services Coordinator in the Bexhill centre, the post holder will have a positive relationship with students on all Dv8 programmes, linking where necessary with parents and outside agencies to ensure we are best able to support our students to attend and achieve.

The post holder will also work closely with the Teaching and Learning, Marketing & Recruitment and Management teams supporting ongoing organisational developments.

The role would suit an outgoing and confident individual with excellent interpersonal, administrative and organisational skills who has an interest in education, creativity and support for young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safeguarding (Designated Organisational Safeguard and Prevent Lead)
    • Fulfillment of all duties outlined in Designated Safeguard Lead roles and responsibilities.
    • Accurate reporting and recording of any safeguarding or child protection incidents.
    • Case work where appropriate to ensure students engage with outside support agencies and are enabled to remain in learning at Dv8
    • Timely reporting to Senior Management Team of all serious incidents.
    • Be point of call for all staff in centres for reporting.
    • Complete all necessary training up to Safeguard lead level
    • Source and arrange regular training for all staff to ensure compliance.
    • Keep up to date on all safeguarding issues and disseminate to Senior Management Team.
    • Carry out necessary referrals and information sharing, in line with GDPR data protection and privacy policies.
    • Ensure clear strategy is implemented across the college to ensure students are fully aware of Prevent strategy and understand British Values.

       

  • Attendance
    • Lead on attendance monitoring and ensure all students with poor attendance are supported to remove barriers, are set clear targets for improved attendance are  fully engaged with their learning programmes.
    • Support teaching teams and course leaders to develop clear strategies

       

  • Pastoral support
    • Referrals to external services and follow up.
    • Source and support with external agencies to provide specialist pastoral services
    • Build up network of known services in local area and contacts.
    • Provide in-house pastoral and welfare support to Dv8 students as required.
    • Act as C-Card lead and liaise with Sexual Health services in Brighton.
  • Information, Advice and Guidance
    • Careers advice - Lead on CEIAG strategy across the organisation, linking with outside support agencies to provide impartial careers guidance throughout the programme. 

    • Provide all students with up to date and accurate Information, Advice and Guidance and progressions support as required related to their programmes, progression opportunities and work placements

    • Support students to identify appropriate progression opportunities for the following year, apply for continued education  or employment opportunities.

    • Provide suitable IAG and follow up for students being withdrawn or electing to leave the college early

  • General Admin
    • Facilitating student reward systems
    • Maintenance and administration of safeguard and pastoral reporting systems.

Person Specification

Essential Skills Required

  • Completed Safeguard Lead training in the past 2 years
  • Recent experience and knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection issues and processes
  • IAG or CEIAG qualification (or willingness to complete training)
  • Previous experience in an student services/ IAG position
  • Experience of working with young people
  • Experience of working within an education environment
  • Excellent communicator and ability to work positively with young people, staff, stakeholders and partners
  • High level of literacy and numeracy
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent level of organisational, administrative and time management skills
  • Practical at problem solving and working on one’s own initiative
  • Previous experience in an student services/ IAG position
  • Capable of managing workloads, prioritising accordingly and working independently
  • Self-driven and flexible approach to changing work tasks
  • Excellent team working skills

Qualifications Required

  • Prior qualifications up to Level 3 and English and Maths GCSE
