HEAD OF VISUAL ARTS (Full time, permanent)

Required from 1 September 2019

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and well organised Head of Department to lead and manage our outstanding Visual Arts provision.  As a College, we are ambitious for our students and we need to appoint staff who can bring the right blend of flexibility, commitment, energy and vision.

The Head of Department should have a strong grounding in Fine Art and appreciate the conceptual and intellectual links between all the disciplines within the department – Fine Art, Textile Design, Graphic Design and Communication and Photography.  Applications are welcome from practitioners in all these disciplines

The successful applicant will be offered a permanent full time contract commencing 1 September 2019.  The BHASVIC Corporation has adopted the conditions of service and salary scales applicable to sixth form colleges. Salary: BHASVIC Management Pay Spine C1-3. The salary range for this grade is £43,011 to £45,681 (NSP9 £38,748 plus up to a further £6,933) depending upon management experience.

We are a successful Sixth Form College, graded as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2012.

About 50% of our students come from Brighton and Hove, but many come from other state and independent schools throughout Sussex. The same variety of backgrounds, cultures and interests that make the Brighton area unique, also makes the College a lively, stimulating place to work.

There are approximately 2500 students on roll, of whom the vast majority (approximately 99%) follow Level 3 courses (mostly AS, A levels or BTECs) with the remainder following ESOL courses. The vast majority of our students are in the 16-19 age range, and following full-time courses. We have a strong local reputation for the academic success of our students and for our focus on individuals’ needs.

The College is within walking distance of Brighton town centre, Brighton train station and is on a main bus route.  Please note that there is limited parking on the College campus and parking permits are allocated according to the distance you have to travel to work.
