To cater for the seasonal increase in ship calls we are looking to recruit Port Operatives on a 12-month fixed term contract. For immediate start.
- General Port Operatives/Stevedores - Loading and unloading cargo vessels. Working either on the vessel or on the land side.
- Vessel Cargo Checkers – When a vessel is in working in the timber terminal to bar code each timber pack as they are unloaded from the vessel.
- General Labourers – Restacking timber packs, tidying up the terminals.
- Fork Lift Truck Driving – Assisting the unloading of timber vessels, moving the packs from landing point to stacking area.
Working pattern
- Fixed term contracts available are 30 hours (part-time) or 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday).
- Hours are variable and subject to short notice variations and changes depending on vessel requirements.
- On weekdays we will advise the working hours required per day depending on the shipping requirement.
- Vessels tend to commence at 0600 in the morning and finish around 1800/1900.
- Flexibility is the key.
Skills and experience
- No previous experience is required. However, experience of working on plant such as Fork Lift Trucks would be an advantage.
- Candidates must be aware that they are working in a port environment and therefore may be working in all weather conditions.
Pay/Package
- £24,000 per annum, increasing after successful completion of 6-month probation (salary is pro rata if the Operative is on the part-time contract).
