This is an exciting opportunity to join a vital part of the NHS, driving and improving the data function that informs and powers the efficiency of this crucial public service.

Your new role
This is a brand-new role, where you will benefit from the trust, freedom and responsibility of being the first SQL DBA to pick things up in this team. Recently, there has been significant resources pushed towards their Data function in the form of very deliberate investment, as well as an exciting restructure to really get the most out of their data store and virtualised servers. To be at the forefront of the management and maintenance of the organisations data warehouse and business intelligence systems. This is a crucial, brand new appointment - offering the unique opportunity to be the lead on the strategies and processes required to develop and support the data, as well as getting to be hands on with the database administration.

At a glance…

  • To lead and manage the database administration and take responsibility for the development and management of database servers, Development, Test and Production.
  • Ensure that the data warehouses are structured to support efficient data aggregation and analysis by Informatics staff.
  • To lead and manage upgrades to data warehouses and reporting tools to ensure the department keeps up with the latest technologies and SQL server upgrades.
  • Take leadership of all database analysis and data interpretation, including problem solving using SQL programming, use of advanced functions and complex methodology.
  • Provide technical authority, training support and management of the development of new information databases and information processing systems.
  • Working on a data store that is on multiple SQL systems, and eventually migrating this onto a single core system

What you'll need
You will need to be technically well versed as a SQL DBA with previous experience in a similar complex data environment. You will ideally possess an expert understanding of data warehouse concepts and data modelling, with exposure to ETL design and development within Microsoft. An understanding of database design and maintenance is of course essential, along with hands on experience with data analysis tools such as Microsoft BI or other reporting services. A general awareness of NHS data standards is beneficial, but not essential by any means.

What you'll get in return
There is a comprehensive benefits package including 27 days holiday + bank holidays. Flexible working is also on offer to allow for a healthy work-life balance. You will also be a vital part of a large and cutting-edge team.
