Our client are a FTSE 100 organisation with a truly SME feel and are currently looking to recruit a Category Officer to join their procurement team.

The Category Officer procurement role is considered to be a progressive position within the business with a view for the successful candidate to quickly progress up the ladder.

The role is to manage their Direct spend which is circa £40M overall. As part of a wider team your role will be a combination of strategic category management in regards to managing your supplier base and supply chain and enchancing it's capability. This will be mixed with daily purchasing activities to ensure the business has a continuous and timely flow of goods &/or services to meet business requirements.

As Category Officer you will have strong analytical skills looking at spend data & trends. You will be able to convert this data into meaningful decisions that will allow you to take a strategic approach to managing the performance and improvement of your supply chain.

The role has a global scope where you will be sourcing different regions around the world and successfully negotiating preferable commercial arrangements with new and existing suppliers. Your arrangements will deliver savings whilst also having a strong focus on both quality and on-time delivery.

Your purchasing will be within the Direct spend category and has a large portfolio of direct related products e.g. chemicals, metals, plastics, cleaning materials, uniforms, textiles & all the way through to plants for ambience.

Key to this Category Officer role is the ability to influence internal stakeholders at senior levels. Stakeholder management is considered to be among the key elements to be successful in this role.

To be suitable for this role

You will be a progressive individual with a determination and drive to succeed in procurement and a desire to get ahead. The business are looking to develop and progress their Category Officers and so are looking for a combination of;
  • Previous experience working in a mid to corporate sized business where you have engaged and influenced a range of senior stakeholders
  • A progressive career background that shows demonstrable successes in regards to sourcing & managing suppliers
  • Excellent analytical skills in regards to analysing spend and supplier performance.
  • Previous track record of delivering both financial savings and also improved performance within a supply chain
  • Strong supplier sourcing experience and negotiation both new & existing suppliers
  • Timely purchasing skills that ensures the business receives materials and/or services when required

Either CIPS or MCIPS qualification is highly preferred in this role.
