Band 6

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) is the largest community health and care provider in Sussex. Our expert teams deliver a wide range of medical, nursing and therapeutic care to over 9,000 people a day, serving a total population of 1.3 million.

We pride ourselves in providing excellent care at the heart of the community. In July 2018, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) gave us an improved 'Good' rating, with 'Outstanding' features. 96% of our patients said they would recommend our services to their friends and family, and we attribute this to the hard work and dedication of each and every one of our teams.

We offer our staff a multitude of benefits; flexible working, free health and wellbeing checks, three tax efficient workplace nurseries rated 'Good' and 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, and a wide range of exciting learning and development opportunities including external courses, conferences, and a Graduate Studentship Scheme.

The Trust is signed up to the disability confident scheme and we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the vacancy.

We are seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and enthusiastic Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service in West Sussex to help us cover a FTC maternity leave for 8 months.

This post is based in Lancing and within the Worthing Locality but some travel across the county will be required. The post holder will be managed by the Worthing Locality Manager. Children within West Sussex are offered therapy services through an integrated care-pathways model and you will work as part of the Early Years pathway and within the vision, values and strategic objectives of Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful applicant will be offering a variety of evidence-based, direct and indirect therapy approaches to children delivered at the universal, targeted and specialist level within the hospital clinic, nurseries, local Children and Family Centres, and mainstream schools. There is a strong commitment to multi-agency working with colleagues in Health, Education and local partnerships.

The successful applicant will be part of the Early Years and Mainstream Schools teams.

You will:
  • Have experience of carrying out appropriate assessments for pre-school and school age children with speech, language delay/disorder as well as school age children with complex needs and Autistic Spectrum Disorders in mainstream schools.
  • Provide input to pre-school/school age children with a range of communication difficulties supported by Highly Specialist SLTs in ASD, Complex Needs, Cleft, HI and dysfluency.
  • Visit pre-school settings, nurseries and mainstream schools to ensure all environments support the child's needs.
  • Have experience of setting and measuring outcomes to ensure that you are delivering high quality and effective care.
  • Have excellent communication and negotiation skills in order to work with and through others (parents, caregivers and pre-school and school staff) to achieve positive outcomes for children with SLCN.
  • Develop and offer training to colleagues, educational staff and other professionals.

If successful you can expect:
  • A warm, friendly, encouraging team of therapists and assistants
  • Structured support and supervision
  • Excellent clerical support
  • A range of training and development opportunities
  • Regular team meetings
  • A wide range of resources

The Sussex Community Trust Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service is committed to Continuing Professional Development and supports staff to engage in a broad range of learning opportunities. The successful candidate will work within the vision, values and strategic objectives of Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.
