At St Peter & St James Hospice we provide high quality specialist palliative and end of life care for patients with cancer and other life-limiting conditions across East and West Sussex.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced professional to lead our Learning and Development services both internally at St Peter & St James Hospice and with health and social care staff working in the local community. Ideally with some experience in palliative and/or end of life care or with leadership experience you should also be in possession of a Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Education (or similar) or have the drive to undertake this course of study.

You will work closely with the Director of Care, Head of Community Services, Medical Director and Training Co-ordinator in the planning, delivery and evaluation of a Learning & Development programme. Key external colleagues will be the members of the Hospice Education Collaborative: including membership from hospices across Kent, Surrey & Sussex and the University of Brighton.

You will work alongside and support clinical colleagues in a training capacity; role modelling evidence-based practice, developing their confidence and clinical skills to ensure they are providing the highest standard of clinical care and practice. You will have a key role in supporting audit activity and the wider clinical governance and assurance agenda.

The development of this role is directly related to the hospice’s clinical strategy aims: we want to be able to provide care for people in their own homes at the end of life, we want to broaden the skill mix of our current community team to enable more flexibility and ensure that the right professionals are supporting the appropriate people and we want to be able to offer more educational and developmental support to care homes in order to enable them to provide a high standard of palliative and end of life care. A key element to the introduction of this role will therefore be supporting the Head of Community Services to establish a care at home service with a team of well trained, confident and compassionate Care Assistants.

We are seeking a professional with considerable experience working in a multidisciplinary setting who is committed to holistic palliative care provision and partnership working. You will also have exceptional interpersonal skills and an effective, collaborative leadership style. If you are interested in developing your career in palliative care and would like to play a pivotal role in improving end of life care in our area then we would love to hear from you.

If you are interested in this role, please speak to Anne Jackson, Director of Care or Vanessa Cowle, Head of Organisational Development & People Management.
