We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated apprentice who is keen to learn the broad subject of Horticulture and has the initiative to further themselves. In this role, you will be part of a team who are responsible for the upkeep and development of Plumpton College’s grounds, working in a beautiful setting, nestled at the foot of the South Downs.

Specific work tasks will include the maintenance of planted areas and turfed areas, as well as working on bespoke projects to consistently improve the quality and appearance of the grounds, contributing to the overall student experience of our learners. You will be part of an experienced, dedicated and forward thinking team helping to pursue both sustainable and progressive working methods.

As well as all of this, there is the unique opportunity to be part of a team that will be working on the Stanmer Walled Garden restoration project. You will be helping to restore a Victorian Walled Garden into a new exciting visitor attraction on the edge of Brighton, showcasing different methods of Horticulture, implementing a design from one of the creators of the Eden Project.

We seeking to appoint a dedicated and hardworking individual who can thrive in a competitive sector and deliver ambitious targets for growth and quality. With a flexible approach, you will show commitment developing your academic portfolio. We are seeking an individual who can demonstrate their passion for horticulture and who enjoys working outdoors in all weathers.

This is a 2-year apprenticeship contract and the rates of pay for this role will be based on the national minimum wage for apprenticeships starting at £4.00 per hour in year 1 and rising to the higher rate national minimum wage in year 2. You can also look forward to a great range of benefits including 26 days holiday plus bank holidays (as well as up to 7 efficiency days at Christmas), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free on-site parking. This is a full time role with day release for College studies.
