JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Team Leader, the Multi-Skilled Machinist will programme CNC milling machine tools, operate manual and CNC milling and turning machine tools. The successful candidate will need to use their own initiative and have aspirations to progress within the team and/or wider business. We manufacture low volume, high variety components so it is essential for the candidate to be flexible and multi-skilled, and not to be phased by moving from one job type to the next.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Set and operate CNC machinery using Heidenhain, Haas and Protrak controls and programme CNC machinery using the various operating systems.
* Set and operate manual lathe machine tools and perform tight tolerance turning operations.
* Read and understand manufacturing drawings in order to establish material and process requirements. To design and manufacture machine fixtures.
* Inspect manufactured components and cope with manufacturing variations while setting and operating machine tools.
* Liaise with the Machine Shop Team Lead on any issues that will impact current requirements and outputs.
* Think about and suggest continuous improvement opportunities to improve safety, quality and velocity.
* Maintain a good product knowledge range. We manufacture a number of single components and modify OEM parts, so machining knowledge and attention to detail is essential.
* Ensure that all areas, plant and equipment are kept in a clean and safe working condition and that the general area is kept in a clean and tidy state.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICIATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
* NVQ, Apprenticeship or City & Guilds or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering and Machining.
* Previous experience in a similar role.
* Proficient in setting and operating CNC machinery using Heidenhain, Haas and XYZ Protrak controls and programming CNC machinery using the various operating systems.
* Skilled in manual machining and CNC machining techniques.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering/manufacturing instructions, e.g. drawings.
* Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
* Ability to carry out the physical requirements of the role - lifting, bending, kneeling, stretching, etc.
* Willingness to adhere to all Company health and safety policies, procedures and processes.
* Willingness to learn additional skills.
* Willingness to work overtime as required.
