A day in the life of a children's residential home

You arrive on shift at the residential home and are given a handover, you are assigned to work 1-1 with a young person and asked to plan and carry out an activity of their choice.

You go and speak to the young person tell them that they have got some funding to have an activity today so what would they like to do , the young person chooses to go bowling then out for tea . You sit with the young person and with them plan the buses that you will use, where they would like to go and eat and what time you will be back. So now it's all planned you tell the young person that before the activity can start that they need to tidy their room, they are not too happy about this but you use your negotiation skills to help them see that the quicker its done the quicker they can go out on their activity. The young person sets of too tidy their room, while they are doing this you go and speak to the home manager and tell them what the plan is for the day and obtain the funds to carry this out. The young person has tidied their room and eagerly waits for you so that they can go out. You both then go out to start the activity. The activity goes well you both have fun whilst still maintaining a professional relationship. You arrive back at the home at the time that you said you would and the young person tells the home manager and the other staff about the brilliant time they have had …..You have now got a happy young person who is learning to trust adults again and a massive sense of achievement

What a good day to have with a vulnerable young person …..if you would like days like this and be paid for them then please contact FPR group on 01273 711919 and speak to louisa, elicia or Jim as we currently have opportunities available working with young people with EBD

Due to the nature of the work, the ideal candidate will have experience working with children and young people with emotional behavioural difficulties along with a passion to support children and young people. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to withhold professional boundaries and be resilient with challenging behaviour. If you drive, it is a bonus due to location of the homes however this is not essential
