This is a challenging opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of a unique and personalised provision of support to a 24 year old autistic young man in his life.
He is very fit with no physical disabilities and interested in many things despite having severe autism, very limited speech and understanding of speech, severe learning difficulties and challenging behavioural problems. He likes to be outdoors and active. He enjoys walking, swimming, cycling, trampolining, scooters and lots of different physical activities. He has interests in art, music and computers.
You will need to enjoy the freedom of supporting him on different programmes of activity and be committed to developing his independence and skills. You will be alert and able to assess dangers in the environment and be able to anticipate and keep him safe. You will also be interested in learning how to support him in all areas of his life whilst enabling him to maintain appropriate excitement and emotional expression. He needs security and intelligent support to remain safe, well and emotionally able.
We are seeking a reliable individual who can work as part of a team. You should have experience of working with challenging special needs and/or Autism. This is a physically active role when out in the community supporting 2 to 1 and you will be part of a team working shifts. You will need a full driving licence. You must be prepared to work occasional weekends and be available for holiday breaks. You will be expected to participate in planning activities and providing feedback for monitoring.
The hourly rate is £10.50. Double shifts and overnight rate is applied for breaks away from home. There is an on going training programme
