We are the UK’s leading nursery meals provider. A passion for providing high quality, nutritious meals for children in the Early Years and Primary Education is the driving force of our business. Based in the rural village of Laughton (nr Lewes, East Sussex), we produce up to 8,000 meals a day for our nursery and school clients, throughout the South East.

Zebedees is now seeking an Executive Chef to join our dedicated team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated team leader, with excellent catering and people management skills.

  • Managing a team of 35 personnel
  • Ensuring production targets are met
  • Analysing and improving procedures/systems with a view to increasing efficiency and profitability
  • Monitoring and maintaining quality of food, ensuring a consistently high standard across all areas and during all stages of production.
  • Working with our Nutritionist in the ongoing management and development of our menus, and implementation of new concepts.
  • Achieving food budget cost controls, overseeing ordering and ensuring minimum wastage
  • All financial discipline in the kitchen
  • Ensuring hygiene requirements are kept to the highest standards
  • Taking responsibility for the continued development of our HACCP procedures according to the company's Food Safety Management guidance.
  • Working alongside our HR Manager in relation to kitchen personnel matters to include recruitment, performance reviews and disciplinary issues.
  • Managing training plans for kitchen staff, and overseeing their professional development.
  • Regular reporting to Directors.

  • Proven track record in high production catering
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements in food processing for high risk groups
  • Awareness of allergens and safe practices for catering for people with allergies
  • Ability to create an environment where team members can work at their best
  • Have been working at level of Head Chef for at least 3 years
  • Hold up to date Health & Safety and Food Hygiene, level 3 (or above) Food Safety certificates
  • Ability to manage, train and develop a team
  • Computer literate
  • Financial acumen

Hours:5am to 2.00pm Monday to Friday.
Annual leave:25 days holiday per year plus 8 Bank Holiday days. Closed at Christmas.
