Teaching Assistant

Location: Chichester

Salary: £9.50 per hour plus holiday pay (pro rata).

Hours: 32.5 hrs over 5 days

Job type: term-time only position

The Prebendal School is the Cathedral Choir School of Chichester and provides education for the Cathedral Choristers as well as other girls and boys who are full or weekly boarders and day pupils. The Prep School provides for ages 7-13 and the Pre-Prep admits pupils from 2¾. The School occupies a superb site in the heart of Chichester - adjacent to the Cathedral and a minute’s walk to the city Centre. With its Choral foundations, the School encourages musical achievement in all its pupils, but also excels in academic endeavor and sports; it has a very high local and national reputation.

Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant:

The position is for a Teaching Assistant (TA) from September 2019. The successful applicant will be allocated to support a pupil in Year 5.

The TA will be required to work under the instruction and guidance of teaching and senior staff. This work will be carried out in the classroom, the outdoor environment, and sometimes beyond the school boundaries. The TA will contribute to the development and maintenance of a safe and stimulating learning environment for this pupil.

Requirements of the Teaching Assistant:

  • Applicants should have Math’s and English GCSEs, Grade C or above; an NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent is desirable.
  • Ideally, the candidate should have an appropriate qualification related to working with children. Prior experience of working with children in an educational context, and children with SEND is desirable.
  • To have a ‘can do’ attitude, understanding the flexibility needed for working in a busy independent school environment;
  • To be reliable and have excellent attendance and punctuality;
  • To use common sense and be prepared to act on initiative;
  • To be an effective communicator verbally, via email and in the written form;
  • To have strong interpersonal skills such as empathy, drive and enthusiasm;
  • To have a calm, patient and nurturing approach;
  • To enjoy working within a collaborative environment;
  • To enjoy a sense of achievement and to aspire to successful outcomes;
  • To be proactive and prepared to share your good ideas;
  • To have a good sense of humour!
