In a nutshell

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Planning & Performance Manager to join the Network Operations team at Virgin Atlantic. Responsible for the structured strategic planning process for a rolling 24 month planning cycle, influencing other functional areas (including Commercial, Engineering, Cargo, Operations, Airports and Customer) to ultimately deliver a fully flowed flying program that is resilient while balancing operationally efficiency with commercial objectives.

You will lead and / or support the definition, creation and delivery of Operations strategic projects and also shorter term initiatives to ensure successful implementation delivering operational excellence. You will be a confident and engaging communicator able to chair cross functional meetings and able to hold stakeholders to account to ensure requirements are delivered on time.

Working with the Head of Operations (and other stakeholders as appropriate) the role will develop effective relationships, both internal and with external/joint venture partners, defining requirements/processes to support the continuous improvement of operational performance and decision making.


Day to day

  • Lead a structured strategic planning process for Operations and Commercial teams that gives key operating groups a better-informed stake in the creation of seasonal flying programs.
  • Resolve conflicting requirements and address limitations between stakeholder groups to ensure a legally compliant and safe program is agreed.
  • Charing Operational/Planning weekly meetings, tracking actions and ensuring delivery.
  • Leading and supporting operations related projects (Strategic and tactical) providing high quality insight with the ability to influence key stakeholders to deliver business objectives.
  • Lead Operations planning and approval of short notice ad-hoc additional flying requirements such as ad-hoc charters.
  • Define and preparation of reports and recommendations and confident to present to senior management and peer groups.
  • Undertake reviews of operational performance, preparing reports/recommendations as appropriate.

About you

We are looking for a confident, independent self-starter, with strong communication skills (written and verbal). You will have demonstrable experience in planning with good aviation awareness (preferably across multiple disciplines such as Operations, Commercial, and Customer etc) and have an inquisitive and determined approach, able to analyse data and other information to solve problems.

You’ll be organised, engaging and assured at presenting/chairing meetings with great influencing skills, working cross functionally to deliver an optimized flying program or project within the agreed timelines. Being a strong team player, capable of rising to new challenges, resolving conflicting requirements and getting stuck in is essential to succeed in the Network Operations team.
