DO YOU WANT TO BE PART OF A NATIONALLY RECOGNISED AND ACCLAIMED TEAM OF THERAPISTS WORKING IN SPECIAL SCHOOLS IN WEST SUSSEX?

ARE YOU READY TO DELIVER A SERVICE THAT SUPPORTS FAMILIES AND SCHOOLS IN A COLLABORATIVE AND INNOVATIVE WAY ?

THEN WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

An exciting opportunity has arisen for skilled Occupational Therapists to join the Therapies In Schools (TIS) team within SEN schools across West Sussex. The TIS service is an innovative PT and OT model of service commissioned by West Sussex County Council and delivered by Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust. Its aim is to provide additional therapeutic input to schools, supporting teachers and carers to integrate therapeutic goals into heart of curricular activities and at home. TIS is an additional service to the current NHS provision and aims to work flexibly to meet ever-changing demands as they arise. A key part of TIS is to provide accredited training to all education staff and offer opportunities for families and carers to access the training too.

The TIS service has been highlighted by the Children's Disability Council as an excellent example of joint commissioning and innovative practice. TIS has also been mentioned in a ministerial letter by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families. The TIS service was originally an 18 month pilot project which focussed on just three schools in the Worthing and Shoreham areas.

Following the unprecedented success of the pilot we are now in a position to recruit numerous highly skilled Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to deliver TIS at nine schools across West Sussex. Each recruited therapist will cover a number of schools to reflect their geographical location and the number of hours for which they are employed. Typically a therapist will work in one school per day, so a three day a week part time post may cover three schools, depending on the needs of the schools local to that therapist.

A TIS therapist will need to:
  • Confidently deliver training to small and large audiences
  • Attend parents' evenings
  • Be passionate about a child's right to receive their education in a local school
  • Be committed to providing intense therapeutic input to a small selected caseload of very complex children. Including multi agency working and home visits
  • Provide innovative and diverse approaches to solving clinical and procedural problems
  • Demonstrate significant experience in areas of complex physical disability and/or sensory processing

We're particularly looking for therapists who have passion for service development as TIS intends to expand further. Our vision is to grow beyond SEN in West Sussex and for this we need people who can demonstrate forward thinking and a positive attitude to making change across current service models. If you would like to be part of the new future of therapy in education locally and beyond then we'd love to hear from you.

Please state in your application how many days you are interested in working, whether you require a term time only position, and to which towns/areas you would be willing to travel. We have posts to fill in Crawley, Horsham and Burgess Hill, Worthing, and Chichester.

We are also considering applications from OTs interested in a Band 6 to 7 development role, as well as Band 7 roles.

This post may close earlier than the published closing date if sufficient applications are received.

Correspondence relating to this vacancy will be conducted electronically. Please ensure that you check your emails on a regular basis. References will be requested electronically also; please ensure you provide correct contact details for referees.
