Sales Manager

Salary: £40-50k (dependent on experience)

Our Client is the largest structural steel fabricator in the South East of England and have been supplying structural steelwork and reinforcing material to the construction industry for over 25 years. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and ambitious individual to join the Sales team, leading 3 teams with a total of 18 people.

Based at Head Office in Crawley, you will be responsible for developing and executing a strategic plan to manage the Sales side of the business working closely with the Commercial Director. The individual must be self-motivated, energetic, and able to work effectively across the businesses and all its functions. Strong business instincts along with ability to thrive in a team environment are required for the successful performance of this role.

Main Purpose of Job

•Regular and proactive calls to potential clients
• .Effective management of internal sales functions
•Conversion of incoming enquiries
•Development and acquisition of key accounts
•Sale of the product portfolio
•Identification and development of new markets and market segments
•Understanding and implementation of the strategic direction of the sales and marketing

Main duties of the role
•Motivate and lead the team by example, managing the performance of the customer focused team, giving clear guidance and direction.
•Facilitate the team to interact and develop into a cohesive unit.
•Oversee the team to ensure a continuous throughput of work is achieved, ensuring all required information is passed to the Operational Team and company procedures are followed regarding customer credit accounts and payment for goods.
•Set, agree, manage and achieve performance indicators within the sales team including cold calling, follow up targets and profit margins as agreed with the Commercial Director.
•Maintain strong liaisons between all teams to guarantee effective and efficient delivery of the end product.
•Ensure the customer service levels offered to all customers are the highest level in the areas of product and service quality, reliability, responsiveness to, understanding their needs and with upmost professionalism.
•Ensure company procedure is followed for processing sales, individual limits are controlled and only authorised personnel can unsuspend transactions.
•Achieve growth targets in key growth areas and introduce new product ranges as agreed by the Commercial Director. Provide and issue product information and updates to existing and potential customers
•Ensure key accounts are developed as agreed, whilst maintaining good relationships at all times
•Monitor competitor activity and feedback information
•People management; to include (but not exhausted to) recruitment, training, retention, disciplinary procedures, time keeping of teams including absence, holiday etc.
•Give input into the Senior Management Team to improve company performance and give feedback to the Commercial Director on current and future performance.


Experience and Skills
•Sales Manager experience with an excellent track record of meeting sales targets
•Proven experience of managing a sales team
•Experience within the construction sector (Desirable)
•Able to multitask and work well under pressure
•Enthusiastic, can do attitude with a willingness to learn a new IT Sales system
•Excellent communicator
•The ability to achieve a performance standard against a set target
•Highly proactive and motivated to increase sales from existing and new customers
•Diligent, following up on enquiries in a timely manner and managing time effectively to maximise sales
•Persuasive and excellent negotiation skills, equally good at winning work and resolving any issues directly with the customer
•Generate innovative ideas which will help push sales
