Salary: From £25,000 annum within a range, plus shift pay and excellent benefits

Contract: 12 months fixed term

Hours: Shift work - 4 on, 4 off. This will consist of 2 days (0700 - 1900) and 2 nights (1900 - 0700) with an element of standby

Location: The Base, Crawley, West Sussex

In a nutshell

This is an outstanding opportunity to join the Operations Control Centre (OCC) team as an Operations Officer! You will be responsible for assisting the Operations Controller in the delivery of the Virgin Atlantic (VAA) flying programme.

This role is a focal point for global operational communication with a view to delivering a safe and regulatory compliant operation. All the while having an awareness of the financial repercussions of decisions made. Considering the best interests of our customers.


Day to day

  • Act as the main point for communication regarding operational issues and to quickly, calmly and accurately collect and assess, and disseminate information relating to operational matters.
  • Highlight any issues, where relevant, to Ops Controller or OCC Duty Director, identifying key elements and priorities.
  • Maintain continuous global flight and weather watch aligning to company policy, in order to handle, and where possible to mitigate, operational risk or disruption.
  • Support, and where necessary assist or brief the pilot in command of VAA aircraft with specific operational control information, in the interest of flight safety and operational integrity.
  • To investigate, arbitrate where necessary, and accurately record causes of poor punctuality across the global network, in line with the company mission to drive continuous improvement of On Time Performance.
  • Using company reporting and tools, monitor connecting passenger issues between VAA and joint venture partners, to ensure customers amazing experience between transfer flights, minimising disruption and cost.


About you

Ideally you will have technical understanding of a variety of disciplines involved in aircraft operations. Understanding of multiple IT applications used in Operations control including but not limited to, OMS, AIR4, Citrix, CMFU, A-CDM, Sitatext and Arinc Ops Center.

Do you have the ability to maintain calm efficiency in the face of critical time pressures, whilst being able to multi-task and prioritise? Have excellent interpersonal skills, using standard phraseology and communicating concisely with both internal/external customers? Are you an outstanding team member and problem solver is also very important?
