Are you an experienced Governance Professional looking for a new challenge?

South Downs Education Trust is looking to appoint a Clerk to the Board of Trustees, local Governance Committees and Board. The Clerk will provide high-quality administrative support, advice and guidance to ensure that the work of these key volunteers meets all of their legal obligations and strategic aims.

The role is based at the Trust’s head office in Worthing and will provide clerking support to the planned Board and Committee meetings which are scheduled throughout the academic year and are usually held during the late afternoon/early. The post is part-time (10 hours per week) and working term-time only. The post holder can be homeworking but will always have access to management and office support from the main Worthing office.

The successful applicant will also work closely with the Chief Executive Officer on other areas of compliance, policy and procedure so an eye for detail and knowledge of education law will be important qualities. You will need to be able to manage your own time effectively, be comfortable chasing busy people to ensure deadlines are met and confident in taking the initiative to find relevant information on behalf of the Board. A flexible approach to working hours is essential, to accommodate the varied schedule of the meetings, as is your tact, diplomacy and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

We can offer you:

  • A friendly and supportive environment
  • The opportunity to work with well-motivated students and supportive parents
  • A location on the coast very close to main line railway services and road networks
  • Free well-being and medical support cover
  • The opportunity to be part of the South Downs Education Trust MAT
  • Free use of our brand new fitness suite

Completed applications should be sent to Mr Panayiotou, CEO/Headteacher, at the address below or emailed to vacancies@sedtrust.net.

Closing date for applications is Monday 30 November 2020 at 9am.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 10 December 2020 – in person, covid safe interviews will be organised but candidates can attend by ZOOM if necessary for self-isolation reasons.

Please note, because of the nature of this job, if you are successful in your application you will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service with barred list check.  This will be done by means of applying for a DBS certificate through the Disclosure and Barring Service.  Disclosures include details of cautions, reprimands or final warnings as well as convictions, spent or unspent.  Clearance will be obtained before employment commences.
