GOVERNOR (to start ASAP)

BHASVIC (Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College) is an independent Corporation that aims to transform lives through learning and has been rated as Outstanding by Ofsted with record-breaking results, whilst providing an exciting place with a contemporary, creative learning culture.

Our Governors comprise individuals from business, the local community, Staff, Students and Parents and together the Governing Body sets the direction for the College and ensures that good governance is at the heart of College activity.

We have a vacancy on our Governing Body for someone from a working educational background with specific Safeguarding knowledge, skills and expertise and are inviting interested candidates to submit expressions of interest in this role.  Please refer to the Governor Job Description and Safeguarding Link Governor role on BHASVIC website https://www.bhasvic.ac.uk/the-college/working-for-us/current-vacancies

The intention would be that once appointed, within a fairly short timeframe (one term), the successful candidate would take over the role as Designated Lead Safeguarding Governor and also join the Corporation’s Quality and Curriculum Committee.

If you have the time and commitment for this rewarding voluntary role, along with the preferred skill set as detailed above, please submit your expression of interest and CV to Louise Pennington by Friday 4th December 2020 at the following e mail address:  l.pennington@bhasvic.ac.uk

After the deadline, the Governing Body will review applications and then invite candidates for an informal interview. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact – Louise Pennington: l.pennington@bhasvic.ac.uk

The Governing Body is committed to diversity and welcomes applications from people with different backgrounds.

Company

We are a successful Sixth Form College, graded as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2012.

About 50% of our students come from Brighton and Hove, but many come from other state and independent schools throughout Sussex. The same variety of backgrounds, cultures and interests that make the Brighton area unique, also makes the College a lively, stimulating place to work.

There are approximately 2500 students on roll, of whom the vast majority (approximately 99%) follow Level 3 courses (mostly AS, A levels or BTECs) with the remainder following ESOL courses. The vast majority of our students are in the 16-19 age range, and following full-time courses. We have a strong local reputation for the academic success of our students and for our focus on individuals’ needs.

We are very proud of the achievements of our students and very much value the individual contribution that each of our staff make to our continuing success.  Our last staff satisfaction survey found that nearly 90% of staff at BHASVIC enjoyed their job.

The College is within walking distance of Brighton town centre, Brighton train station and is on a main bus route.  Please note that there is limited parking on the College campus and parking permits are allocated according to the distance you have to travel to work.

We offer a good package of employee benefits including:

  • A family friendly approach to help achieve a healthy work/life balance.
  • Membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme for all our teaching staff.
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme for all our support staff.
