Job Details

We’re on the hunt for a talented Payroll Officer to join our People team in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, on a six-month fixed-term contract.

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking and administering full payroll activities and cycles for all UK-based employees of First Central Group. 

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have:
 

  • Demonstrable payroll experience in a similar role
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent time management skills and ability to work to tight schedules
  • UK payroll experience, including manual calculations and year-end processing

 
Job responsibilities
 

  • Preparation of all UK payrolls including calculation of payments such as overtime and bonus payments, as well as deductions such as unpaid absence and loans
  • Ensure the accurate processing of all starters and leavers
  • Calculate and process statutory payments
  • Ensure an accurate payroll through intensive data analysis
  • Ensure adjustments are made for leavers and P45s are produced accurately
  • Ensure the accuracy and timely remittance of the payroll to employees
  • Run auto-enrolment processes and ensure that all employees receive notifications and are enrolled into the pension scheme
  • Ensure pension payments are calculated accurately, considering the special needs for deductions made via salary sacrifice
  • Upload pension summaries to the pension companies and ensure that payments are made within deadlines
  • Timely production of monthly payroll reports
  • Work closely with the Finance team to analyse and reconcile monthly reports
  • Ensure that all annual payroll returns are submitted in line with regulations, for example P60s and P11ds
  • Liaise with the payroll bureau to ensure payroll is produced accurately and in line with the monthly timetables, ensuring that good relations between the two continue
  • Liaise with the HR team to ensure that payroll paperwork is produced accurately and is uploaded to the system as required
  • Liaise with the People Process and System Partner regarding the upkeep of employee data on the HR system and regularly check that this reconciles to the payroll system. Make any necessary updates to organisation structure or departments as needed
  • Be the main point of contact for any queries relating to payroll, pensions, or tax

 
Skills, knowledge & experience
 

  • Previous experience of administrating UK payroll in a similar role
  • Experience with year-end administration
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer-facing skills
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Strong reconciliation skills
  • Strong numerical ability and data entry skills
  • Good understanding of payroll and processes
  • Confident Excel skills
