Description –

Managing the product life cycle is of growing importance and key area of interest for Elekta PQ&S, in order to reduce Cost of Non-Quality (CoNQ) and improve the product service offering in a rapidly increasing installed base. The role of Life Cycle Engineering Specialist will serve as the subject matter expert for understanding, developing, and driving the life cycle methodology (“Life Cycle Thinking”) across the MRL Business Line. Focus of the role will be centred on establishing a holistic view and interpretation of costs sustained during the delivery of service and understanding our data management and acquisition needs in the fulfilment of our life cycle cost objectives.

Responsibilities –

  • Responsible for accurately defining the Life Cycle Costing Framework for servicing and maintaining current Install base.
  • Identify specific cost elements and cost breakdown structures currently observed for the install base, establish intelligent insight of hidden cost, and communicate to Stakeholders in the MRL Business Line.
  • Champion life cycle thinking and novel approaches measuring the cost effectiveness of engineering and service improvements released to the Field.
  • Work with Product Development and Engineering in the promotion of ‘service value added’ and Design for Service activities and proving potential financial value (e.g., TCO or CoNQ reduction) and rates of return (e.g., ROI, IRR).
  • Work with PQ&S and wider organization stakeholders in articulating company and PQ&S strategy to establish satisfactory, value driven and business worthy key performance indicators.
  • Work with the Global Service Data Analyst and Business Intelligence to design life cycle cost and other related metric dashboards and visualisations.
  • Defining and documenting the MRL PQ&S data acquisition and data management process relating to storage, provision, and governance of data and analytics.
  • Hold workshops and improvement events with stakeholders to optimize processes, tools, and systems for this purpose.
  • Liaise with the Regions and Service Delivery to understand gaps and issues around data input in Salesforce®, improve “data debt” and standardise best practice for the purpose of FRACAS.
  • Work with Engineering and Spares Logistics to understand spare parts usage rates and consumption costs, investigate parts prioritization in accordance with reliability levels observed in the Field.
  • Lead product performance exploratory and innovation concepts, as business need is highlighted, to integrate reliability and service operations with PQ&S Service Innovation and Engineering Teams.
  • Prepare slide decks and formal communications to Regions, Suppliers, and Customers disclosing current product performance and other associated life cycle engineering metrics.

Relevant Knowledge, skills and competEncies –  

  • Masters (MSc, MEng, MA) qualified in Engineering, data analytics, computer science or other numerical discipline.
  • Alternative qualifications will be considered on the condition the Candidate can demonstrate industrial or research experience pertaining to the responsibilities and roles defined (e.g., operations managements, supply chain, logistics).
  • 5+ years’ experience working in a service, service delivery or operations environment, preferably in repairable long-life based systems or capital equipment looking at value engineering, life cycle cost reduction and performance improvement.
  • Demonstrable experience working with and in a multi-stakeholder environment or industry, with the ability to engage and drive life cycle thinking.
  • Proven ability to think holistically and flexibly in accordance with customer and business requirements, demonstrating drive and ambition to address gaps, issues and develop plans to that effect.
  • Comfortable using and applying statistical and numerical methods to problem solving and decision making, ability to disseminate conclusions and outcomes (e.g., costs) clearly.
  • Excellent range of communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to present potentially complex subject matters to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience using Salesforce®, or other related CRM or ERP systems and data intelligence platforms such as QlikSense
  • Experience with scripting, programming and data warehousing will be looked at favourably

The Life Cycle Engineering Specialist is a new role, the successful Candidate will be required to grow, redefine and / or change the definitions of the role, as business need requires. Roles, responsibilities and relevant skills and knowledge are flexible.
