Vacancy description

Duties will include:

• To work with skill trained staff, to learn how to use VMC milling and turning
• To learn and use CNC lens polishing and generating machines state of the art Optotech equipment , most based on Siemens controls
• All aspects of optical mechanical design and production, Gunsights to endocopes
• Designing lens tooling on custom software, making that tooling. Using that tooling on the CNC lens lines
• Turning or milling components to drawing
• May include the assembly of Sights or other optical assemblies
• Working in clean room conditions
• Inspection of assemblies and sub-assemblies using optical test equipment or CMM

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

• Dextrous
• Mechanically minded, logical chain of thought for problem solving
• Practical mathematics trigonometry
• PC literate
• Solid Works always an advantage

Personal qualities

• Must be sociable and a good communicator
• Happy disposition

Desired qualifications

• A level or GCSE C/4 or above in mathematics and English (or equivalent)
• Physics would be a plus and Computer science

• East Sussex College will provide the Engineering Technican Level 3 Standard  which will include the Diploma, EPA and  Functional Skills if required
