Vacancy description
The successful applicant will be involved in the preparation of breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes. We are well known for our excellent handmade burgers and source our ingredients and fresh produce locally.
You will be involved in all aspects of food preparation including::
- Preparing salads, pasta dishes, breakfasts and our home made meat and fish dishes
- Keeping the kitchen environment clean and maintaining the relevant food hygiene standards required, e.g. temperature checks
- Understanding the stock required and stock control
- As the role progresses you will be responsible for your own section, contributing to planning the menu and / or introducing new dishes and making dishes from scratch
East Sussex College are the Training Provider for this Apprenticeship.
Full training will be given.
Requirements and prospects
Desired skills
- Ideally you will have some experience of working within a commercial kitchen (whether through college or outside)
- Able to work as part of a team
- Good time keeper
- Able to work under pressure
Personal qualities
- Good attitude towards work
- Reliable
- Willingness to learn and the ability to use your initiative are more important than academics
- As you will be working in a small team, it’s important that the candidate contributes to the smooth running of the operation
Desired qualifications
GCSE English & maths grade C/4 or above (or equivalent qualifications) desirable.
Future prospects
Potential permanent full-time employment on successful completion of the apprenticeship.

- No split shifts
- No evening shifts (currently – however there are plans to open evenings)
- Currently 2 days off a week together (including Sunday) again this may change as the business demands

East Sussex College will ensure Health & Safety, and Equality & Diversity.

As the role progresses apprentice will be responsible for own section , menu preparation, making items & dishes from scratch & will cover all elements of the NVQ curriculum – Cover Team members / Head Chef responsibilities.
