Apprenticeship summary

  • Weekly wage: £172.00
  • Working week: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, one hour unpaid lunch break per day
  • Total hours per week: 40.00
  • Expected duration: 24 months
  • Possible start date: 30 Aug 2021
  • Apprenticeship level: Advanced Level 3 (A level)
  • Positions: 1 available

Some of the key tasks will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plumbing Repairs and Maintenance
  • Boiler Installations
  • Hot Water Cylinder Installations
  • Bathroom Installations
  • Underfloor Heating
  • Gas Work
  • Landlord Safety Inspections
  • Emergency Plumbing
  • Waste Work and Drainage
  • Kitchen Plumbing.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Basic plumbing skills attained from completing a Level 2 Plumbing Qualification
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills and be able to understand basic skills and instructions
  • Good written communication skills  
  • Ability to perform tasks under instruction and close supervision with a view to becoming more independent
  • You will be enthusiastic and have a commitment to the tasks and training that has been offered
  • Be a good team player with good timekeeping, and have the ability to use initiative and perform calmly under pressure
  • You will need to be able to learn and familiarise yourself with equipment, parts and terminology

Personal qualities

  • You will be respectful, polite and keen to learn
  • You should enjoy working with people and as part of a team
  • You will be hardworking, dedicated and committed to getting your heating and plumbing qualification
  • You will need to demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn
  • You should be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the business
  • Be open and honest in your work

Desired qualifications

  • A level 2 qualification in English and maths would be an advantage. However, if you don't hold such a qualification you will have these subjects included in the apprenticeship
  • It is essential to have a Level 2 Plumbing Qualification to apply for this role. We are also advertising for a role that does not have essential qualifications.

Future prospects

  • At the end of the apprenticeship ideally the employee will stay with the company and become GAS safety registered

Things to consider

  • We expect our apprentices to be prepared to travel an hour either way to get to the workplace each day. We typically work in the South East
  • A driving licence is essential for this role because once you are up to speed we will insure you on one of the company's vans

  • Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Apprenticeship Standard

You will be employed full time by the business and you will have 20% of your paid time in off the job learning. You will learn all aspects of plumbing and heating for domestic systems including health and safety and current legislation.

Your apprenticeship will be completed with an End Point Assessment which involves:

  • A multiple choice test
  • A design project
  • A practical installation test
  • A practical application test
  • A professional discussion

The End Point Assessment is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

For day release you will either join a class at the Ore Valley Campus (just outside of Hastings) or the college's Construction Centre, based on the Castleham Industrial Estate at St Leonards. Location will be confirmed at sign up, based on timetabling, so please be prepared to travel to either location, once a week, term time only.
