Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust is committed to paying the Real Living Wage. This is currently £9.50 per hour and is reviewed annually in line with the cost of living.

Our Bank Facilities Assistants receive a 12.5% addition to our standard hourly rates, so earn over £10 per hour before tax.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a motivated and hard-working individuals to work as part of the Facilities team who ensure our standards meet the National Specifications for Cleanliness in the NHS. The role involves cleaning the Health Centres in clinical and non-clinical areas. Also in the new Bedded Unit in Hove - Brighton & Hove ICU (Lindridge site)

Previous cleaning experience would be an advantage, but not essential as training will be provided. Please give FULL details of any relevant experience on your application form to assist us with the shortlisting process.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The following gives an overview of the key main tasks for this role, but tasks may
vary depending on team or site:
 To ensure strict adherence to all policies and procedures in relation to food
hygiene, including HACCP, personal hygiene and cleaning down procedures.
 Clean all surfaces using appropriate methods to remove dust and debris.

 Remove / replace / clean curtains and blinds as necessary.
 Clean all hard floors and mop daily.
 Empty, clean and replenish waste bins.
 Seal waste bags and carry out appropriate waste disposal procedures.
 Clean internal glass and ledges.
 Clean all sanitary areas.
 Maintain equipment in a clean and serviceable condition.
 Maintain and respect the privacy and dignity of patients whilst carrying out Facilities
duties.
 Clean Beds.
 Replenish bed linen on patient discharge or as needed.
 Clean furniture.
 Replenish consumables - paper towels, soap, toilet rolls etc.
 Adopt a flexible approach, as you may be required to work at any Trust site.
 Ensure the correct storage of all items.
 To issue and collate inpatient menus.
 Collect and clean all crockery and cutlery and kitchen utensils as required using
automatic dishwashers where available.
 Collect, wash and return water jugs.
 Collect and replace soiled linen.
 Collection and delivery of goods.
 Collection and delivery of medical gas cylinders.
 Transportation of patients between wards and departments, if required on an
occasional ad hoc basis.
 Use of electrical cleaning equipment.
 Carry out the regeneration of prepared meals, preparation of salads and
sandwiches, and any other food items as required.
 Ensure that the patient meals are placed in the appropriate ward trolleys at the
correct time and ready for service.
 To prepare and serve food and beverages as required.
 Use of cash register if required.
 To ensure security is maintained at all times.
 Completion of departmental paperwork as required.
 Assist with the service of patient, visitors and staff meals.
 Provide the appropriate amount of crockery and cutlery in advance of service
times.
 Ensure that food presentation, portion control, temperature and quality standards
are adhered to.

Person specification

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent standard in English and Maths


Desirable criteria
  • Basic Health & Safety certificate
  • Maths and English GCSEs grade C/4 or above
  • NVQ Cleaning


Experience
Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment


Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment
  • Previous experience in Housekeeping/Cleaning/Catering services
