Job overview

We are looking for an innovative, enthusiastic, organized Occupational Therapist with at least 24 months post registration experience ; 6 - 12 months having worked within stroke / Neuro services. A keen interest in rehabilitation is desirable. You will be part of a friendly, supportive team covering 10 stroke rehab beds attached to a medical rehab ward.

Main duties of the job

We are currently looking for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist for 22.5 hours per week, to join our inpatient stroke rehabilitation team at Crawley Hospital in West Sussex. We work closely with our colleagues, within the multi-disciplinary team, to deliver holistic, client centered care that is provided alongside the National Stroke Guidelines.

To be successful in the post you must demonstrate knowledge of stroke presentations and have the ability to assess, plan and execute a rehabilitation programme and identify discharge requirements whilst adhering to the National Stroke Guidelines. We are a small team of a specialist part time band 7 and a rotational band 5 OT. You are required to prioritize your work load and delegate to the B5 OT ; alongside the B4 and B3 technicians who provide practical support across the medical and stroke teams on Piper Ward. You will be asked to supervise students as required. Flexibility is required to support the medical beds both on this ward and the other two wards if staffing needs arise.

The B7 OT will provide informal and structured supervision and once you have settled into the position you will be required to supervise staff, therefore experience in supervision skills is advisable. There will be opportunities to increase your knowledge and skills as identified within your personal development plan. Excellent communication skills are essential to enable you to meet the needs of individual patients , their relatives and staff members.
