Plumbing and Heating Operative

Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Plumbing and Heating Operative to work as part of the Maintenance team. This is a full-time, permanent role with a salary of £25,000-£30,000 per annum depending upon skills and experience.

 

Reporting to the On-Site Services Manager and working closely with the Assistant On-Site Services Manager, this role provides proactive and efficient operational plumbing and heating services at the College and its broader estate.

 

General duties and responsibilities include:

  • To provide first response to heating and hot water issues at the College and undertake repairs as necessary
  • To oversee the servicing and maintenance of pressurised equipment that is undertaken by specialist contractors
  • Working closely with the Project Team to coordinate essential maintenance and refurbishment works with major construction projects
  • Manage and improve the controls for the various heating and hot water systems
  • To ensure that operational stock levels are maintained
  • Issuing and controlling all appropriate legal paperwork (e.g. certificates of testing, etc.)
  • To assist with other works as required in support of the Facilities service
  • An acting member of the on-call rota on successful completion of a three-month probation period
  • Any other reasonable management request.

Overseas, the College has opened Brighton College Abu Dhabi, Brighton College Al Ain, Brighton College Dubai and Brighton College Bangkok, with Brighton College Singapore the most recent addition, having opened in September 2020.

There has also been major investment in new facilities over the last ten years. This has seen the construction of five major buildings on the main site, including the new £55m School of Science and Sport which opened in January 2020, which includes eighteen state-of-the-art laboratories alongside a new sports hall, 25-metre swimming pool, fitness centre and roof-top running track. Other recent additions include two new boarding houses, a state-of-the-art Music School and the Yeoh Building, a teaching building which includes 22 classrooms for maths, history, economics, politics and EAL, alongside an innovative Creative Learning Centre, opened in 2017.
