Apprenticeship summary

  • Weekly wage: £240.00
  • Working week: Monday-Friday. 8am-5pm, one hour lunch break each day
  • Total hours per week: 40.00
  • Expected duration: 36 months
  • Apprenticeship level: Advanced Level 3 (A level)
  • Positions: 1 available

Some of the key tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Removal, repair and replacement of vehicle body panels to vehicle manufacturer specification
  • Using repair tools
  • Learning to use different vehicle technology
  • Using jigs, resistance welding equipment, riveting and bonding tools
  • Motor vehicle chassis and body alignment
  • Learning the key process for vehicle panel repair such as Welding utilising either Tungsten, InertGas (TIG) and Metal, Inert Gas (MIG) & brazing along with spot welding, riveting utilising self-piercing rivets and utilising panel adhesive bonding as specified by the manufacturer
  • Follow safety precautions
  • Interpret relevant technical data and methods to make sure that any joints are in line with vehicle manufacturer specification and the vehicle/body panels are aligned correctly
  • Learning to identify where panels are beyond repair
  • Learning to detect and rectify faults
  • Work alongside a mentor and a team

The apprenticeship may start before the closing date.

Desired qualifications

maths and English GCSEs, at grades C/4 and above, or equivalent are desired for this apprenticeship. For those that don’t have qualifications in maths and English you will be required to undertake an initial assessment in maths and English to ensure you’re at a high enough level to complete the apprenticeship.

Future prospects

Once qualified further advanced training within your discipline. We are ideally looking for someone who wants to stay with the company long term. Many of our existing members of staff have been with the company for years. 

Things to consider

Day release will be from East Sussex College, one day per week, located at the Eastbourne Campus, located in Hampden Park. You will have to travel to the campus, once a week, term time only. The college is about a ten minute walk from the train station. Please ensure that you can travel to the employer and the college before applying.

Wages will be reviewed after 3 months. If you are excelling in the job role they will be increased. The employer will also consider providing a fuel allowance.

About the employer

Here at GDA we carry out servicing and repairs for all makes and models using the latest tools and equipment by our fully qualified staff. 

We have a fully functioning full insurance approved body shop on site. We can cater for smart repairs to full nut and bolt restoration, crash repair and full re-sprays.

This is a family run company run by partners, father & son. The employer is looking for someone to join their family atmosphere.

  • Level 3 Vehicle Damage Panel Technician Apprenticeship Standard, at grades Pass or Distinction
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (unless exempt).

20% of your contracted working hours will be spent on training. Training will be covered by day release, as well as being in the workplace. Common forms of training include completing written assignments, meetings with your assessor, being mentored and shadowing other members of staff. Throughout your apprenticeship you will be required to keep an off-the-job training log for any training that you complete.
