Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Multi-Trade Operative, to start as soon as possible.

This role is an essential part of the facilities team, with the emphasis on assisting the specialist trade positions. General maintenance experience and knowledge is required for this role.

The post will work alongside the Specialist trade positions and associated facilitated team.

Experience of working in a school or college environment is desirable.

This role will work 40 hours per week, from 8.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday inclusive with a 60-minute unpaid lunchbreak each day.

 

Job responsibilities:

  • To undertake general maintenance works as directed by the Head of Facilities, Maintenance Supervisor. This will include:-
  1. repairing damages e.g. furniture/walls etc,
  2. decorating (as required),
  3. glass cutting,
  4. window repairs, 
  5. basic plumbing,
  6. basic plastering,
  7. painting,
  8. assisting others in the department,
  9. general all-round duties.
  • Inclusion on the maintenance call out rota, to work 4 Open Mornings on a rota system (7am to 9am) and the last weekend of the summer holiday. Paid overtime is available for this.
  • Occasionally you will be required to enter residential college properties for repairs. Consideration and discretion is expected at all times.
  • Occasionally assisting the Porterage department with setting up/setting down of exams or functions (e.g. helping to lay temporary flooring, laying out exam desks/chairs and installing a side stage etc.)
  • Any other reasonable management request.

 

Once you start work you will receive on-the-job training, usually under the supervision of an experienced colleague. You will be given the opportunity to work towards a qualification, such as:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Property, Caretaking and Facilities Services
  • Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning and Support Service Skills
  • Level 2 Certificate in Facilities Services
  • Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Supporting Public Services.

 

Safeguarding responsibilities:

  • This role will involve daily contact with pupils and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
  • All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
