Emergency Nurse Practitioner/Emergency Care Practitioner

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced autonomous practitioner to join the team at Horsham Minor Injuries Unit, which serves Horsham and its surrounding areas. At present, the service operates from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, excluding Bank Holidays. This role would be ideally suited for experienced emergency practitioners or emergency nurse practitioners who have experience of managing patients with a wide variety of injuries.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to work to a high level of autonomous practice within agreed guidelines, as defined by local protocols. The successful candidate will be committed to service improvements, with an acceptance of change and a desire to work in a positive environment that embraces the challenges urgent care faces as the service moves forward.

You will demonstrate a calm and confident approach to your work, utilising excellent physical assessment, decision-making and communication skills, and managing and prioritising your workloads effectively.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Some of your main responsibilities will include:

a) To work as an Autonomous Practitioner providing complete care packages to patients; ensuring safe and effective management of care for minor injuries and minor medical conditions. Working in association with and in support of the other practitioners in defining standards of care and practice aimed at developing or improving quality of care.

b) Liaising with other senior staff regarding the management and co-ordination of the Horsham Minor Injuries Unit including all staff and consumables.

c) Management of the care strategy and philosophy through leadership and
supportive managerial skill whilst ensuring that all individuals strive to achieve the highest possible standards of care.

Person specification

qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Completed and obtained RN and has current live PIN on NMC register
  • Mentor preparation ENB 199 or alternative mentorship qualification, ENB 998, BSc.
  • Minor injuries/A33 or equivalent


Desirable criteria
  • Non medical prescriber
  • Minor ailments module.
  • Experience in change management

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 5 years in emergency nursing at senior level.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a Junior Emergency Nurse Practitioner role.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience in change management
  • Demonstrable skills in leadership and management


skills and knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Advanced history taking and physical examination
  • Plastering, suturing, ring blocks, trepanning, manipulation.
  • Working knowledge of the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (2000).
  • Demonstrate effective and accurate x-ray interpretation.
  • IT literate.
  • Understanding and knowledge of current issues in nursing and the NHS.
  • Demonstrates application of evidence-based practice.
  • Knowledge of clinical supervision.
  • ELS, ALERT, SCORE.

  • Indication of relevance of this post to career development.
  • Experience in clinical audit relating to urgent care and evidence of having completed an audit cycle.
