Job overview

Ensure that Sussex Partnership provides excellent nursing research experiences for pre- and post-registration nurses.

Scope, map and evaluate nurses' access to research training and programmes.

Lead on developing innovative in-house research training experiences for nurses who want to be more research aware and research active.

Provide a visible and accessible senior nurse presence in the Research and Development Department and related forums to support clear and effective research leadership for nurses.

Prepare high quality, successful research proposals for The Department of Nursing Research, Education and Development and the School of Health Sciences.

Ensure that the highest standards of training and education are aspired to and achieved within the resources available.

Publish original research in appropriate journals or other media, as appropriate.

Assist the Director of Nursing Research, Education and Development in the delivery of the Nurse Education Vision, Nursing Research Strategy, Workforce Planning and Nursing Strategy.

Provide expert nurse research leadership, career advice and coaching, education and training consultancy to nurses and multidisciplinary teams.

Initiate and lead changes in practice through research and education particularly in situations where precedents do not exist.

Link with the CDS', lead nurses and nurse consultants to provide research information which can be acted on.

Main duties of the job

Lead on research proposals and project plans set out in conjunction with the Director of Nursing Research, Education and Development.

Work closely with the Director of Nursing Research, Education and Development to provide day-to-day professional nurse leadership for nursing research.

Lead on the provision of research training programmes for nurses.

The post holder will work across Sussex Partnership to provide nursing research advice and support in line with the Nursing Research Strategy Department of Nursing Research, Education and Development Vision and Nursing Strategy and the most up to date evidence and research.

Lead and co-ordinate a range of activities that promote excellence in nursing research, training and practice through utilisation of evidence and research.

Lead on the review, implementation and evaluation of the Nursing Research Strategy.

Work in collaboration with colleagues from universities and other organisations to develop effective nursing research partnerships that includes successful research proposals

Lead on the data collection, data analysis and report writing as part of the evaluation work and feedback mechanism for nursing research activity in the Trust.

Link with the Clinical Delivery Services', lead nurses, nurse consultants and professional education leads to provide nursing research advice, guidance and information which can be acted on.

Attend all relevant partnership meetings with stakeholders.

Working for our organisation

As Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing Research and Education working in the Department of Nursing Research, Education and Development and the School of Health Sciences, you will work across the Trust and with the School of Health Sciences to provide nursing research leadership advice and support and teaching in line with the most up to date evidence and research. For candidates without a PhD or doctorate, support to work towards a PhD by publication route at the University of Surrey will be provided.

The successful candidate will be expected to, within the first two years, commence a teaching/education PGCert in higher education if they are not a qualified teacher.

The successful candidate will be based at Trust Headquarters, Swandean, Worthing and at University of Surrey School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences Kate Granger Building (in order to provide face to face teaching). The post will be hosted by Sussex Partnership and the contract of employment is an NHS Agenda for Change agreement.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide expert leadership and support in all matters relating to pre and post-registration nursing research and education.

Lead and provide expert guidance to other practitioners in the coordination and management of research.

Contribute to local, regional and national policy developments.

Act as a lead change agent to manage the overall change process in potentially highly complex and contentious situations of workforce development and modernisation.

Act as an expert nurse for the Trust in pre- and post-registration education and training matters relating to becoming research aware and active.

Influence nursing at a Trust wide level, leading on major developmental projects that impact Trust wide.

Contribute to the development and strengthening of nurse leadership across the Trust.

Provide educational leadership for practitioners.

Collaborate with managers, service users, carers and other stakeholders in the development of research training and education programmes.

Support a culture where individuals and teams are encouraged to develop personal and professional knowledge and skills.

Lead on the development of evaluation tools for the assessment of new education and training developments, enhancing the evidence base for education and training practices.

Help to provide evidence required for external assessments and scrutiny (example, NMC and Ofsted visits to one of the Trusts HEI).

Liaise with partner organisations to ensure that identified educational needs are met through a range of educational programmes.

Develop and implement a strategic plan to provide a network of nurses who are teachers as an alternative career pathway and to support the CPD programme.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current registration (mental health)
  • Evidence of master's (Level 7) education or equivalent in related subject.
  • Evidence of significant relevant professional development
  • Completion of Mentorship/Assessors course
  • Practice Assessor
