Job overview

Are you interested in a role with Thought-Full: 'Mental Health Support Teams in Schools' (MHSTs)?

Do you have experience or training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

If so, our 'Mental Health Support Teams in Schools' is recruiting a Band 6 SEND Mental Health Practitioner to join us due to investment and growth.

We are open to a range of individuals from different core professions, the key things for us are your passion for supporting children and young people and your CBT experience/ expertise.

MHSTs were developed following the 2017 Green Paper - Transforming Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Provision. We have three core functions:

1) To deliver evidence-based interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties

2) To support schools to develop their whole school approach to mental health and emotional wellbeing

3) To provide timely advice to school/ college staff to ensure that young people get the right support at the right time

We are an innovative integrated model with Thought-Full being delivered across both Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and the Education and Skills department of West Sussex County Council. We already have 2 teams established in North West Crawley and Bognor & Felpham and this role is part of the planned expansion into new areas of West Sussex which will take us to 52% coverage by end March 2024.

This post offers a Golden Hello, or a Relocation package up to a maximum of £2000. (pro rata applies and subject to terms and conditions. Please see attached Protocol document).

Main duties of the job

This role is specifically to develop the service we offer for special education needs and disabilities (SEND), working closely with the special schools within the Worthing and Bognor areas.

As a SEND Mental Health Practitioner, you will work with members of the team to support special schools to develop their whole school approach to mental health, as well as supporting mainstream schools in how they support students with special education needs and disabilities.

Within the special schools, you will hold a caseload of children/young people presenting with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. This will include offering initial assessment as well as delivering short term, evidence-based interventions, including adapted CBT. You will be working with parents, teaching staff and other professionals and delivering group and individual interventions. You will work collaboratively with young people and their families, incorporating the use of outcome measures within their work.

Working for our organisation

Sussex Partnership provides mental health and learning disability care for all age groups across Sussex and for children and young people in Hampshire.

Please speak to us about flexible working, for example, home-working, part time hours, flexible start/ finish times or anything else. If it works for you and works for the role, we'll do our best to make it happen.

We'd love you to join our Trust, rated 'good' overall and 'outstanding' for caring by the CQC. Our staff agree, in our recent staff survey 82% told us that they recognise that care for patients is our top priority.
