Job overview

The Community Neurological Service based at Newhaven Polyclinic and covering the High Weald, Lewes and Havens area ( HWLH ) is seeking to employ an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join the Team.
This Team offers an Early Supported Discharge ( ESD ) service for Stroke patients as well as providing Specialist Neurological Intervention to individuals with Acquired or Traumatic Brain Injury
This is a clinical role and you will assess patients in the community setting for therapy input and provide specialist treatment programmes within an interdisciplinary team. You will work alongside a B7 SALT within the Team and be responsible for delegating work to Rehabilitation Support Workers .You will work alongside the other Therapy and Nursing staff in planning an interdisciplinary approach to care. You will also work collaboratively with secondary and primary care, community services and third sector organisations.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working within a multidisciplinary team - preferably within neurology/community. You will have excellent interpersonal and time management skills, be a good communicator, be able to prioritize and work well as a member of a team. You will also be passionate about promoting health, wellbeing and independence for patients in the Community and believe in patient cantered care.

Main duties of the job

Patient centered care is at the heart of what we do. You will have excellent communication skills and experience of interdisciplinary team working and goal planning.

The role will involve training delivery, participation in student placements and involvement in clinical governance activities.

You will have post-qualification dysphagia training and experience enabling you to manage a dysphagia caseload independently with support from the speech and language therapy clinical team lead. You will be responsible for the clinical supervision of more junior members of staff.

Experience in AAC, computer based therapy and telemedicine is preferred.

  • Degree (or recognised equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy Registered member RCSLT and HCPC Postgraduate and experiential training in relevant areas


Experience

  • Min 2 years post-graduation in clinical specialism (s) in acquired adult disorders Post basic training and experience in dysphagia Inter disciplinary team working within Acute and Community settings Participation in provision of training to others Participation in student placements
