Job Details

Part-time, 18.5 hours per week, (working days, Weds, Thurs, Fridays)

 

Term Time Only (36 weeks worked per year)

 

Based at the Broadwater Campus, Worthing

 

We are seeking to appoint an Community Support Officer to provide a familiar, visible, consistent and accessible presence for students, staff and visitors at our Broadwater Campus and be a focal point in relation to their personal safety, welfare, supervision and to support students with maintaining a good standard of behaviour.

 

You will become an integral part of the Student Welfare team encouraging increased community confidence and cohesion. You will be using internal referral systems such as Safeguarding and Pastoral team and to work in liaison with these services as directed College Safeguarding Leads

 

You will play a key role in creating a welcoming, courteous environment for learners, staff and visitors whilst promoting and maintaining a secure and safe environment, exercising tact and diplomacy when needed.  You will also provide a holistic approach to supporting positive behavior amongst students, empowering them to make good choices whilst on site. Working as part of the Student welfare team by referring to specialist internal support services and supervisors

 

You will require GCSE Maths and English language or equivalent C grade or above and a Level 3 qualification in relevant subject area eg Coaching, Health and Social Care, Youth Work or equivalent. The following would also be useful (but not essential) -  a First Aid certificate, Mental Health First Aid or Door Supervisors certificate.

 

It is also essential that you have experience of working positively with young people (including 14-19 year olds) and vulnerable adults from a variety of background, having the understanding of the needs and issues they may experience.  Experience of working with and proactively engaging with those exhibiting challenging behavior which may involve managing conflict and the ability to communicate effectively with a working knowledge of personal development, behaviors and attitudes.
