Job overview

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, positive and enthusiastic Domestic/Laundry Assistant to join our motivated and dynamic team.

As a Domestic/Laundry Assistant at Lindridge you will provide service users with the highest standard of support service, ensuring that their physical, social and emotional needs are met. The home caters for a diverse range of needs and you will be communicating and engaging with our residents throughout your shift. Good interpersonal skills are really important for this role and you will be required to act as a Care Champion in all that you do.

Main duties of the job

As a Domestic/Laundry Assistant you will ensure the best quality of cleanliness and hygiene is adopted for all private rooms and public areas, fostering a culture whereby service users' privacy, dignity and identity is maintained to the highest standard.

You will be an integral part of our well-established multi-disciplinary team and we want your expertise, values and commitment to contribute to the ongoing quality of service and care.

You will act in a dignified and responsible manner with service users, visitors, carers and colleagues; listening carefully and responding using appropriate language and communication skills which acknowledge cultural differences and professional boundaries.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
REQUIREMENTS

In order to be a successful Domestic/Laundry Assistant in our team you will have:
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work alone as well as part of a team
  • Flexible and reliable attitude to working arrangements

It would also be advantageous if you have:
  • Experience working within a care home setting
  • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety and COSHH regulations

Flexibility with working patterns to include some weekend work is essential.

MAIN DUTIES
  • To ensure, through supervision, the highest possible standard of cleanliness and hygiene is adopted for all private rooms and common living and service areas.
  • To foster a culture whereby resident's privacy, dignity and identity is maintained to the highest standard.
  • To carry out all cleaning and laundry duties in accordance with the schedules laid down by the domestic supervisor. To use all equipment in a proper manner and to clean and store appropriately after use.
  • To work in liaison with the Manager to determine and maintain stores and stock needs relating to laundry and domestic cleaning.
  • To identify and report malfunction or recognised risks occurring in equipment and machinery used in laundry and domestic cleaning.
  • To supervise safe movement and disposal of waste in the home at the same time ensuring safe storage of waste to the point of external contractors.
  • To provide a laundry service for resident's personal clothing, flat linen and other necessary items, ensuring the correct collection, distribution and return of all laundered items.
  • To inform the Manager of any damage or defects to clothing. To ensure that all items of flat linen are in a good state of repair before returning to the units.
  • To adhere to Infection Control policies as appropriate for laundry and domestic cleaning and to work in accordance with COSHH, Health and Safety and Local Authority regulations.
  • To adopt a neat, clean and tidy appearance at all times and wear the appropriate uniform as supplied by the Home. To maintain the highest level of personal and work cleanliness and hygiene.
  • To contribute to the ongoing quality of service and care, identifying and promptly reporting any risk issues or other significant factors in relation to the service users' health and social care.
  • To ensure strict confidentiality is maintained at all times and that records are kept in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
